This is music from someone who cut their teeth on DelAmitri, Sqeeze, Marshall Crenshaw and Cheap Trick. He's got a very unique voice, and was the lead singer for a group called The Badlees for many years (Angeline is Coming Home, Fear of Falling) This is his first solo record. You can check out tunes at www.petepalladino.com. My wife thinks he's hot. I like his voice. The Tories - Upside of Down These guys are old school power pop at its finest. Not as weird or as polished as Jellyfish, but good stuff. This is their second record, and although I haven't listened to it enough to make me like it as much as their first record, they are a really great band and have killer harmonies. You might remember them from the Fox show "Jesse" starring Christina Applegate - they did the theme song. You can check them out at www.tories.com. They're independent now, since their old record company went belly up. Fountains of Wayne - Utopia Parkway Another pop band with great songs and great style. You may be caught off guard by the lyrics, especially since the songs are so upbeat and catchy. Check them out at www.fountainsofwayne.com Dexter Freebish - A Life of Saturdays Winners of the 2000 John Lennon Songwriting Competition. You've probably heard the song "Leavin' Town" on the radio. The record is strong, and I was kind of sad that it didn't do more for them out of the gate. The second single, "My Madonna" didn't get much airplay. They're at www.dexterfreebish.com Last, but definitely not least, and more in the vein of Patty, Maria McKee - Self titled first solo CD, and also Gotta Sin to be Saved If you've never heard Maria, you're missing out. She was just on Letterman not too long ago, doing a traditional appalachian folk song, of all things. She has the most incredible voice, and she has that rare abilty to do the same thing Patty can - basically make her voice do anything from a sexy whisper to a throaty growl. It is a testament to her ability when I say there are only two female vocalists who completely blow me away - you can guess who the other one is. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Aug 2001 04:29:36 -0700 From: diamondmask@juno.com Subject: MM: Jennifer Warnes Hi Rose... Just wondering, which Jennifer Warnes CD's were you after? I have "Blue Raincoat", and it's one of my all time favorite CD's. john in sumner wa ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
