Wow. Impressive. I am pleased to say I have heard at least 87% of the names given. And, from these list I went ahead and ordered Darcie Miner's EP, and the two Libby Kirkpatrick cds. Next question..has anyone heard of Pamela Means? Any advice, comparrisons, reviews.... Just curious. I came across her web page and am interested. I left out such artist as Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Fiona Apple and etc b/c of their mainstream names. The woman I work with is aware of such artist. And, she is already a fan of Joni Mitchell. I regret that I left off Ani Difranco. That is my one mistake. But, where we work (the library) carries many Ms. Difranco cd's. So.. i will let her be aware of that. Because Ani is a very important singer/songwriter. This was hard to narrow down. If i made a second cd i would include such incredible artists as rose polenzani, kris delhmorst, stacey board, edie carey, beth amsel, nields, etc. I didn't want to throw too much at her. I put on artist who can be found at borders, or joseph-beth.. so that she can go looking if she becomes interest. So..here it is... 1. At Seventeen - Janis Ian 2. Poetry of Lies - Patty Larkin 3. The Stranger - Melissa Ferrick 4. Are You Down - Lucinda Williams 5. Blackbirds - Erin McKeown 6. Flinty Kind of Woman - Dar Williams 7. Radical - Catie Curtis 8. Come Around - Kim Richey 9. Say Good-bye - Merrie Amsterburg 10. Everyday - Tret Fure 11. Where Were You - Jonatha Brooke 12. Promise Me - Lucy Kaplansky 13. I Go Like the Raven - Tracy Grammer (this one is debatable since Dave Carter wrote the actual song, but it is excellent, and she sings) 14. Angelina - Jess Klein 15. I Still Cry - Julie Miller 16. Butterfly Queen - Katie Reider 17. Every Little Bit - Patty Griffin ... there was 1 minute and 45 seconds left on the tape so i placed on.. 18. Hand Full of Water(instrumental) - Patty Larkin Again, thanks for all the feedback. matthew ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 23:42:31 EDT From: FlamingRed74@cs.com Subject: MM: NPC: Nikka Costa.. anyone heard her? Hey guys, I've come across a few reviews for Nikka Costa's new CD, and they all sound great! She doesn't exactly sound like Patty's "style" but still sounds very interesting and like something I'd like to check out. I would have ordered the CD by now, but I have a slight problem. I've been reading that her one video was being shown on MTV a good bit, and that's usually a VERY bad sign.. It also said in the review that the single isn't really like the rest of the CD.. so that's encouraging. I know it's a shame to have to AVOID those whose music is on MTV because MTV only shows garbage crap music that they can spoonfeed to the masses, but hence.. this is the the world we are forced to live in at the moment. I have too many CD's lying around that I never listen to as it is, therefore.. I'm looking to those with a musical taste that I respect before forking out $13 plus shipping for something that may or may not be very good. Suggestions & comments from anyone who has heard her entire CD.. and not just the single would be greatly appreciated!
