(sorry, just thinking of possibilities >in my head) .... maybe Patty should sign on with him?? >Dave-- Patty G Rocks! Dave has a lot of good points. Another couple of things to consider - we don't know the details of her contract. A lot of times, costs associated with the road and even the record can be recoupable against future sales. When a record company *knows* it has a huge record on its hands, it will charge all kinds of shit to the artist. If they can't do this, then the record will cost them money. There is no such thing as artist development anymore -- at the majors anyway. They're not going to let an artist put out 2 or 3 or 4 records before having a hit. If they don't think you're gonna sell enough records to recoup your costs, plus make a nice tidy bundle for them, they don't want to know you. Also, consider that Patty probably made a good chunk of change from the Dixie Chicks, so she might not want to jump in a van and play 50-seat coffee houses. That's a tough life, and you have to be very, very hungry to do it. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Jun 2001 22:17:12 +0100 (BST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Matthew=20Smith?= Subject: MM: Patty Griffin You may or may not have heard that Patty Griffin has parted from A&M interscope and is looking for a better label on which to release "Silver bell" She already has a large and dedicated fanbase both sides of the Atlantic, many of whom subscribe to the "Mad Missioners) mailing list. She has already released "Living with Ghosts" and "Flaming Red". The laissez faire manner in which you handle Pantera suggests that you might be the right label for her, letting her get on with the music, and not trying to force her into a category. I've no financial interest in her, i'm just a huge fan who is desperate to hear more new material from one the the best songwriters on the planet; music that can reach right into your heart with ease! The rest of the world desreves to hear it !
