Just got back from seeing Tesla , with "Flaming Red" Dave. Since I'm getting too old to stay out all night , I came home , checked my E-mail , & found a special offer for 30% off on Bruce Springsteen's albums. As I checked out sound samples , I wondered how great your communicative abilities have to be when you can deliver a message more clearly than the person who wrote it. What I'm talking about is that Patty delivers the messages of "Stolen Car" , "Nebraska" , & "Racin' in the Streets" much more clearly than "The Boss" does. My guess is that Bruce can't capture the same feeling he had as he wrote the songs when he's on stage or recording. Possibly attributable to self-consciousness - one of the artists greatest enemies. To the degree that an artist concerns themself with what others think of their art , they lose the natural self-expression that makes it worthwhile. I think that it may be what makes Patty's music a cut above the rest. She seems to be very self-conscious when she's not playing , but as soon as she starts , she is focused on the music that she loves. If you like Jess Klein, then you MUST check out Meghan Toohey (www.meghantoohey.com). She's amazing and does shows w/ Jess occasionally and Jess played clarinet on her album ;) and did some background vocals. Very powerful/beautiful... She has 2 new albums out (one live, one studio) and you should get them immediately. Must haves for your cd collection ;) jessica www.jessicaweiser.com | www.aftersilence.net "I need to be bold...I need to be living life not to flicker but to shine" - -brenda weiler ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V5 #83 ********************************
