January is such a kicking month with Mardi Gras season underway. I can't think of any other month where it's socially acceptable to be drunk by Noon on Saturday. How freakin cool is that? Oh yeah! That buzz lasted all day, baybee, because I then went to ANOTHER party with MORE alcohol. Long live Krewe parties. They totally rock. Nothing like fat, drunk, nakedness at the beach, but anyway. My question is, when do we get to the part where some disgruntled employee of Interscope gets a hold of Patty Griffin's Silver Bell CD and starts uploading the songs on Napster? That way we can have downloaded the whole CD for FREE before the label has time to cry about it. We need to start working on this. Jim, this is your mission should you choose to accept it. dun. dun. duh-dun dun. dun. duh-dun. deer neer neer. deer neer neer. deer neer neer. deer neer. We salute YOU, mister or miss disgruntled Interscope employee putting songs onto Napster. You give us the songs BEFORE they're supposed to be released. You save us from endless searches in the CD throw-away bins at discount stores. Why? Because YOU care. Okay, enough trying to sound like a Bud Light commercial. going going gone. Also, Jonatha Brooke's new one, Steady Pull, is now available (advance sales)--it will be out mid-February. I also finally replaced the copy of Flaming Red that I LENT to someone and they NEVER GAVE BACK--it was a promo cd too, which was cool because I never had the actual lyrics. It's funny to read them now--I got 'em almost all right... :) Rockin' out-- Mountain Heartlander (Meghan) - -----Original Message----- From: RocketsTail@aol.com [mailto:RocketsTail@aol.com] Sent: Saturday, January 13, 2001 12:01 PM To: mad-mission@smoe.org Subject: Re: MM: Re: NPC: Recommendation I LOVE Sarah Harmer's "You Were HEre", it's one of the best albums I've heard in a long long time! ~eric ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2001 17:41:28 EST From: MistyBC@aol.com Subject: MM: Martin Sexton... and Patty Hi all, I was listening to this week's Acoustic Cafe over my brand new Ethernet connection, and Martin Sexton was the featured guest. He spoke about his song "Free World." It's on his new album "Wonderbar" and the EP Live in Central Park... But he originally wrote it with Patty in mind (the only song he's ever written with another singer in mind). He said that he had been hanging out with Patty in Boston and wanted to write something that "she could really kill." But I guess he liked it too much, so he recorded it himself. If you want to hear him singing the song and giving the explanation himself, go to: http://www.mlive.com/cafe/index.ssf?/cafe/stories/20010115sexton.frm It's the last song in the 21 minute interview/live performance clip. Probably around the 16 minute mark or so. Martin is really amazing. He's coming to Nashville on Feb. 6th, and I am SO there. ;) Smiles, Misty ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2001 22:07:47 -0600 From: Mike Connell Subject: MM: Patty stuff contest! Clue #1 Hi y'all :-) Well...about 88 guesses thus far, only one right. His prizes will be in the mail tomorrow. This clue will not GIVE it away, but it will put you on the right track I would think. ******* CLUE: the answer has nothing to do with the meaning/definition of any of the words. ******* I know, I'm a sneaky little rat. Rather than repeat the whole contest, my original post from last night is below. Take the clue, re-read the contest stuff below, and try again :-) One thing to think about....I had 88 replies thus far, and one correct answer. Taking the clue into consideration, still the most obvious guesses have been sent in already. Give this some thought. Oh yeah, one request though. If you hit reply and quote some of the text from my email, please edit out all that is not needed, it will make it easier to reply using a form-reply as I did to the 80+ people earlier today. Thanks, Mike Original post: ______________ Hi folks:-) In mid-to late November I received a bunch of older promotional items from Patty's management, some of it is music, some of it is printed material. All of it has to deal with Living With Ghosts and Flaming Red. Oooops...no, I take that back. There's some of those Silver Bell postcards too. Anyway, I plan on giving it all away in various contests on Mad-Mission, Mad-Mission-Digest and Mad-Mission-News, and the first contest gets launched tonight. There are nine First Prizes in this initial contest. Nine winners each will get identical prizes (2 items). The prizes are: 1) An autographed booklet from the Living With Ghosts CD. This is the same booklet that comes with the CD when you buy it, except of course, it's signed by Patty, bless her heart. (I had these almost 2 weeks before I realized they were autographed.....I actually wondered why they had sent them.....I can be a dumb Greek sometimes :-) 2) A Flaming Red promotional cassette tape. Both sides of the tape are identical, and they have the following track listing: Patty Griffin: Selections From Flaming Red 1. Intro (0:19) 2. Flaming Red - snippet (0:51) 3. Patty discusses why she writes and sings (0:46) 4. One Big Love - snippet (0:48) 5. Change - snippet (0:56) 6. Patty discusses Christina (0:37) 7. Christina - snippet (1:10) 8. Patty discusses what music she is into (0:44) 9. Wiggley Fingers - full LP version (4:06) 10. What Patty hears when she listens to this record (0:59) If you wish, you can view these items at: http://www.quackquack.net/pattyg/pattypromocontest01.htm To win a set of these items, you will have to be one of the first nine people to reply to me with the correct answer to a question per the requirements below (MAKE SURE you read the requirements below BEFORE sending a reply). ********************* THE QUESTION: ********************* Which *ONE* of the following eight words/terms do not belong in this grouping and why? opaque nor'easter degree high turbulence muggy absolute storm Sorry, I couldn't think of an adequate Patty related question. Of course there might be more than one "correct" answer, but you have to hit upon the one I have in mind. You can reply with as many different guesses as you wish, but please send them separately. In the event I don't get nine correct replies, I'll re-post each night with a clue. ********************* REQUIREMENTS: ********************* When you reply, send the reply to ME and not to the list. Replies sent to the list will not be considered, not to mention you might give everyone else the answer. (DIGEST subscribers, be careful...you'll have to either "cut and paste" my email address or type it out. Just clicking "reply" will direct that reply to the list, not me) You must reply to me via an email presently subscribed to this list. So that your reply will stand out in my mailbox and make it easier for me to spot, I prefer you either reply to the message with the same subject (i.e. Re: Patty stuff contest! etc) , or create a new subject that just says: Patty Contest with, of course, your answer to the question (do not forget to say WHY the one word you pick does not belong) *********************** WHO IS ELIGIBLE? *********************** Everyone who is presently subscribed to either Mad-Mission, Mad-Mission-Digest or Mad-Mission-News and lives in the universe is eligible. (You do not have to live in the USA or Canada, you can live anywhere....even in prison....even in Iraq....even in New Jersey) Please, no angry letters from Jerseyites...I was just kiddin' :-) Only one wining entry per household. That's about it. So, if you think you know the answer and you want the prizes mentioned above, give it a whirl and reply with an answer and why you think it's the right answer.
