What we ALL got is: "I'm getting tired of all the opinions around here on what is NOT good or serious music. Music is music." That sounds a lot like: "if you think it is not good or serious music, keep your opinion to yourself, because I'm getting tired of hearing it" You are definitely welcome to your opinion, but so is everyone else on this list. If you open yourself up to announce abroad that you are tired of people's opinions, you should be prepared to get flamed... Which is what you got.... And NOT by me... Don't understand the hostility... Oh, and BTW, Sisqo has said himself that he is NOT serious... He is only in the game for the money... He doesn't write his own songs, and he doesn't play a musical instrument... That makes him not ANY kind of musician, least of all a serious one. He is a performer for cash... Kinda like being a prostitute. The person who open's herself/himself up to announce abroad that a particular artist is not a serious musician, (even though Sisquo is not someone I listen to) is a little arrogant. Thus, they should be prepared for an opposing opinion--which is exactly what they got. I disagree with this statement. I'm not really familiar with Sisqo (though I think I've seen his upper body flash across the TV screen once or twice before I flipped the channel), but there are plenty of talented musicians who don't write their own music or play an instrument. I sing in a choir with 75 of them. :-) Does Aretha Franklin write her own stuff or play an instrument? Did Frank Sinatra? Ella Fitzgerald? Cecelia Bartoli? Luciano Pavarotti? I think you'd be hard-pressed to say these people aren't/weren't serious musicians... Having said that, I tend to agree with the poster who said that awards shows based on "popularity" (like the Billboard Awards probably are) tend to reward crap, rather than good music. :-) And no, I'm not equating Sisqo with any of the above musicians. ;-) Dave _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. Sometimes my digest is more stuff I've already read than new stuff. Also, to kind of make up for my complaint (complaining always makes me feel guilty!), I'd like to offer up one set of these two Patty concerts that I taped for b+p: 07Apr00 Lebanon, NH 2CDR 17Oct00 Boston, MA 1CDR Please send a guess of a number between 1 and 1000 offlist. Closest without going over gets it. I only have the time to do one right now, so hopefully the person who gets these can copy them for others. Plus I don't want to interfere with the tree that's going on. I know the Lebanon show is not in very wide circulation and what's out there (other than this recording) isn't the best quality. No clue about the Boston show, but mine sounds real nice. thanks, Matt ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V4 #335 *********************************
