A few weeks ago, I went The Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. to see Emmylou Harris. I'd heard the name "Patty Griffin" before, but that was about it. I remarked to my girlfriend, "I hope she [Patty] is quick so we can see Emmylou." What can I say - I'm an impatient sort, especially when it comes to opening bands that bore me. Anyway, Patty came out, just her and her guitar, and from the first note she sang, I was completely enthralled. Every song she played seemed better than the last, and her voice filled up that theatre like love can fill a heart. It was an amazing performance, and I found myself still thinking about it midway through Emmylou's set. Anyway, I've since purchased both CDs, and have also downloaded some stuff from Napster. As a huge Springsteen fan, I was so thrilled to hear her do "Stolen Car," one of my favorite Bruce songs. I've also recently heard "Silver Bell," which is one of the best things I've heard from her yet. In any case, just wanted to offer my support to this incredible artist, and I certainly hope to see her live again soon. I look forward to discussing and learning more about her on this list. Thanks.... Btw, I have a band of my own -- The Dissidents -- if anyone's interested, the address is: www.thedissidents.com Take care... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Oct 2000 12:08:59 -0700 (PDT) From: Johnny U Subject: Re: MM: RE: hello patty griffin fans Silly goose, this is the tickle me elmo fan club. KAA! Wha? I remarked to my girlfriend, "I hope she [Patty] is quick so we can see Emmylou." What can I say - - I'm an impatient sort, especially when it comes to opening bands that bore me. Firstly, I can't BELIEVE I just saw the words "Patty Griffin, quick, and bore" in the same paragraph. Secondly, I'm still trying to figure using the words "Patty Griffin, party-down, and Guinness" in the same paragrah (besides one such as this, I mean). Thirdly, I can't BELIEVE my new neighbor down the street has wicker furniture. Hello? Can we say 80s fire hazard? Yeah, and I thought I was bad with my pink plastic flamingos. Being tacky is different than bad taste. Wow. I was just stunned into replying to an MM message. Well, I guess MY first Patty Griffin experience was similar...actually at a lower level. I was at a college radio station looking through the CDs before we threw them away. I picked out a few including this one CD with this cute chick on it. I thought, "hmmm. Living With Ghosts, huh? Hey, she's cute. Let's pop her into the old CD player sometime. At least I'll be able to use the jewelcase if she sucks." okay okay okay. Calm down everyone. For such blasphemy I'll just chop off a finger. Okay? Here we go. one...two....three AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! OOOWWWWWW! SHIT! OW OW OW OW! DEAR LORD JESUS SISTER MARY ELEPHANT! uh, gotta go.
