Whattup maddies?? Right now I'm remembering those weird 80s dolls....you know the ones. My Buddy and Kid Sister. Hey, those were toys????? Like yeah. I'm glad I wasn't in to those. I can just imagine what it would have been like bringing those to school or something. It probably would have gone a little like this: 80s ME: "Yeah, this is My Buddy. Wherever I go, he goes." ANOTHER KID: "Hey, why don't you and your buddy give me your lunch money and I won't beat the crap out of you." enough. I don't want to offend those on this list who might have actually bought those things...AND still have them. It's just I remember that jingle..."my buddy and me like to climb up a tree. My buddy and me, we're the best friends." totally wack. As you can tell, I'm a mostly tired dude today. Well, that might be from driving 6 hours to see Patty Griffin open up for the Dix Chix in Jax....and then driving back because I had to be at my Grad Assistant Office hours at 8:30 this morning. I also had the pleasure of meeting wildman Don. He's doing a tad more driving than I...like across the country catching Patty Griffin wherever he can. Hey, Don. Looking back at my inability to read a freakin watch, we should've stayed at Hooters and got served faster. I sit here and tell ALL my friends up north how Florida is a big State and how I'm in the Central Time Zone...but do you think I would remember that Jacksonville is Eastern Time Zone when I get there???? DOH! So, this was my first Patty Griffin Live thing. I'm no longer the PG virgin. But the only words that come to mind is that it was pretty good. Maybe I was expecting Jesus Christ to be rocking along with Ms. Griffin. Maybe I was expecting Patty Griffin to have a longer set, and maybe I should have gotten there on time. Who knows. I think it might have had something to do with the fact that I wasn't some group of girls hugging, swaying, singing, and screaming during the Dixie Chicks' performance like EVERY ONE AROUND ME. My section must have been reserved for that specific purpose. yay. I have all the luck. However, I did think Patty Griffin sounded most excellent. Her voice was max killer (as always), and she was very confident out in front of the thousands of screaming fans. (on a side note...the Dixie were quite good. I predict they could get on the country charts soon. Patty Griffin is doing them a good service by allowing them to wrap up her concerts. It looked like the Chix were gaining fans in Jacksonville.) She did the "Dream On" song, which was pretty phat. And she finished her set with "Mary" which was mouth-wateringly good. She sang most of the "Let him Fly" song with the Dix Chix. There was much whispering around my seat about trying to remember the name of this singer whom the Dixie Chicks repeatedly hailed as the best singer-songwriter EVER. I thought that was neat. AND....although this comes from never seeing Patty Griffin live...I would have to say that I really liked hearing her in the large venue. It felt good. The sound was great. Okay, what I didn't understand was why Patty Griffin's set was so short. Yeah, she's the opening act, but what the hell was all of that big-Fly-floating-around thing with the two chumps carrying mics and running around giving things away? They could have really ditched that part. Total lame-o. Aright, Pink Floyd has pigs...but let me tell you. Giant floating pigs are much more pleasing to the eye than a giant fly. Floyd is still the best concert I've ever attended. A giant fly is just plain disgusting. What was that 80s movie? Clan of the Cavebear, or something like that? With that huge Fly landing on the one caveman, and then the other guy smashing it on him. All I could think of was huge globs of fly guts...especially when the floating fly was spewing something out on the other side of the coliseum. Okay, so this Patty Griffin review was kinda pointless. I guess Paul's a bit disenchanted. I'm glad I FINALLY got to see the fine Ms. Griffin sing so sweetly (and I absolutely LOVED the leather or plastic knee high boots she was wearing, yummy). But to tell you the truth, I ain't driving 6 hours to see her again...not unless there was something else to do other than get in the car and drive right back after the show. I guess I'm not as dedicated a fan as I thought I was. tired. bed now. pual ********************************* * Life's under no obligation * * to give us what we * * expect. * * -- Margaret Mitchell * ********************************* _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
