She's the best live performer I've ever seen, and I have all her CD's. I don't really get the Ani DiFranco connection, though... other than they're both lesbian folk singers and great guitarists who tell lots of stories on stage. Anyhow, I totally recommend her to anyone. She's apparently releasing her second live CD in September... it should be phenomenal. mark Rudgetty@aol.com wrote: > I just got back from a free Melissa Ferrick show. IMHO, melissa's newest cd, Freedom, is pretty darn good.. check it out if yer so inclined. it's the best of the 4 or 5 albums she has out... her debut, Massive Blur is ok, but weaker.. i think she's getting better w/; age.. :) chris ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 09:23:47 -0500 From: rblack1@io.com (Ronda B.) Subject: Re: MM: NPC...Melissa Ferrick Her voice is a little nasally for my taste, but Melissa can absolutely play guitar ... and her songs are intense in an appealing way. I saw her in P-town in May, and she's, by far, the best live act I've seen this year. Her new one is called 'Freedom.' I discovered Melissa a couple years ago from a fellow online Ani fan. While I think Ani fans would definitely be inclined to like Melissa as well, I don't believe they sound much alike at all. They are just both female acoustic guitar players and singer/songwriters. Melissa is a fan of Ani's so there is probably influence although you would never mistake one for the other. IMHO. I don't find Melissa's voice to be nasally at all...more throaty...as if you can tell by her voice that she smokes but it is so beautiful especially during slow songs. Her new album Freedom is great but I highly recommend seeing her live. She is definitely the best live performer I have ever seen. This from a girl who has paid as much as $24.00 for a ticket , seen her 17 times in 18 months and traveled as much as 7 hours to see her perform Here is her website for those interested: www.war.com/ferrick/index.html She is the reason I even volunteered for the SLAM concert which is moved to the trocadero in Philadelphia July 30th. Tickets go on sale Friday. Email me privately if you want details. Evil Gary, if you have never seen her perform. You'd be doing your self a disservice if you don't go. As much as I hate to admit it, you do seem to have good taste...musically anyway :P Joanne ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 20:27:31 -0500 From: "amber bass-patterson" Subject: MM: Re: Patty in Austin this Saturday Got mine! Thanks for the heads up. BTW, where did you get the info? I haven't listened to Joan Armatrading in years. Loved what Two Nice Girls did with her "Love and Affection" combined w/ Reed's "Sweet Jane." Really beautiful.
