Magnolia is one of the best films I saw in years. I was unbelievably moved. And I didn't like Boogie Nights. Highly, highly recommended. The best script I've ever seen filmed, with unforgettable characters. - -- Mark Miazga miazgama@msu.edu http://www.msu.edu/~miazgama ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2000 12:46:44 +0100 From: Steve Garrison Subject: Re: MM: Aimee Mann(PGC gone by now) on 6/12/00 5:25 PM, amber bass-patterson at albassp@ev1.net wrote: > I thought it was a brave and original move. But although I can't be TOO hostile toward a Hollywood movie which wants to have human values at its core, I still thought "Magnolia" was muddled, overblown, overreaching and frequently hysterical. Its kind of "fantastical realism" didn't persuade me intellectually and left me emotionally unmoved. And I wanted to like it. And, yeah, I thought the singalong montage was ludicrous and embarrassing, but I'm glad it worked for you. See you at the movies. Was a band called Ten Sugar Coffee. I really liked the sound--was pretty true to the original in terms of tone/style. I was searching "The Tennesseean" website and came up with this Patty picture from the 99 RiverStages show. http://www.tennessean.com/sii/99/05/03/river03.shtml This is what they say about her performance: "Rocker Patty Griffin showed that [Courtney] Love wasn't the only girl with guitar and attitude at River Stages. Griffin's set yesterday at the First American stage was filled with hard-charging turbobilly tunes, strut rock and naughty lyrics about safe sex and red shoes." - --- One more thing -- If anyone has extra tickets for the July 20th Patty/Dixie Chicks show at Radio City Music Hall, I would be VERY VERY interested in purchasing them. Please email me. I signed up on Musiccountry.com for an email update telling me when the tickets go on sale, but I did not get an email. And now tickets are sold out. Just my luck. I was planning a trip to NYC around this show. Take care, Misty P.S. Jen, thanks again for the new MP3s. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 00:03:58 -0400 (EDT) From: BLUEHEN@webtv.net Subject: Re: MM: Patty Pic & Ticket Request Thanks for the review, Misty!
