I plan on seeing at least 4 shows... I think in NYC, Nashville, Knoxville, and one other city, not sure which yet. :) But I just wanted you all to know that tickets won't be over $40 for any shows... If you are familiar with arena shows, this is very reasonable (well, in relation to other shows). I know that I am biased here, but here are some reasons why I think this tour is a good thing for Patty: 1. Exposure, which leads people to say, "Who is this Patty Griffin? I really dig this!". Which leads to... 2. Album sales, can we say... "Patty Griffin goes platinum!"? And as we know, album sales lead to... 3. Money in Ms. G's bank account. I bet she's making a good percentage more on this tour than she does playing at the 500-1000 seaters she's been playing recently. And possibly, the best thing... 4. Recognition. Critics & the public will know what we've known for years now: PATTY GRIFFIN IS A ROCK GODDESS SENT FROM HEAVEN! Whether or not Patty's being recognized works into your own personal agenda, it can only be a good thing for Patty's career. Okay, that's my monthly rant on why we should all be happy for Patty! Of course, you all have a right to rant about why you don't want to shell out money to see Patty only sing 7 or 8 songs, blah blah... Or why you think arenas are disgusting places to hear music... Or why you wish Patty would just stay in the semi-unheard of music world... But in my opinion, it's just a little selfish. Take care all, Misty, who should be studying for finals right now ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 May 2000 15:34:58 -0400 (EDT) From: runrunrun@dellmail.com Subject: RE: MM: Dissention >So I'm spoiled and I apologize to those who never have other opportunities > to see Patty (and to Dixie Chicks fans). No disrespect intended.> I've never had the oppurtunity to see Patty live either - very very very very very very very sad about that. She came to Philly in Nov, (I think) and no one here would drive me. I was real upset. I think the vids and cds I have of her are good....but I know I would die to see her live. She's my favorite, my hero......I could go on - but most of you know. I even play her songs out all the time (in fact, more of her stuff than my own!) but I would just love to see her.......... Just my 2 cents....... maybe you should drive, ((*.*))darcie. I've learned that we're an after thought . The juice is in the east and the south, and the fans up here take it in the shorts. Not just Patty, but most performers. When they show up here, it's like mid week, then they wonder where everyone is, because they play Seattle on a Wed. and it's not sold out. People work. This mid week stuff is for a 40 block radius. Believe me. People here are STARVED for acts. In the "dark months", if you want to tour, that's the time. We have NOTHING else to do!!! It rains a LOT here. Give us a reason to get out of the house. Yeah, show up in August when EVERYONE else is here because we have two-three months of good weather. You want to build a fan base, come in the winter months. Patty could play in the NW for two weeks and sell out every venue if she didn't set her sights to high. No major venues here except the Tacoma Dome and The Gorge. No arena concerts. I've never seen Patty. I want to, but I won't pay boffo prices to see her as an opening act. I'll pay boffo prices to see her headline in a venue that supports HER. She deserves it. ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! Try it today - there's no risk!
