The "Where the Heart Is" OST featuring at track called "Beyond the Blue", a duet by Emmy Lou Harris and Patty will be released April 18 according to www.amazon.com . Apparently, Patty had slipped into town on Thursday, and played a two-hour "rehearsal" at Toad, a bar in Porter Square, Cambridge. It was an unannounced affair from 6-8 on Thursday, in a room about as big as your living room. From what I understand, Patty just stood up there with a tiny monitor, and wailed for two hours without so much as a water break. About half the people in the room were psyched music-types who had heard about the gig, while the other half were just oblivious bar-goers who had no idea who the hell Patty was, and just kept jabbering away amid the thick-as-pea-soup cigarette smoke (plea to Patty: Could you please, maybe just once in Boston, say, request a no-smoking policy?). Lori, and her opener/accompanist Meghan Toohey (also quite an impressive singer/songwriter), both reported that Patty was just fantastic, working on her new material. At one point mid-set, some guy, pint in hand, wandered up to where Patty was playing, and stood about a foot away from her, in her face. Patty ignored him for a while, but then finally asked him, with a smile, if she could help him. "Your songs are pretty," he said. "But could you play something I know? Like 'Pretty Woman'?" Patty said that she didn't really know it, but that she could do a couple of lines from the chorus, which she did. That apparently satisfied the guy, who wandered back into the throng, where he stayed. I can't believe I didn't hear about it; I was about half a mile away at 8:00 for another show, but certainly would have gotten over to Toad earlier had I known about the special event. Actually, it was Meghan, during her opening set, who mentioned that she and Lori had seen the Patty gig. My jaw dropped, and I looked quite distressed. Lori, who was near me, watching Meghan, saw my chagrined look, leaned over and shook her head, and whispered, "It was amazing." Grrrrrr! So: Find someone in the know, and beg them to let you know if Ms. Griffin will be "rehearsing" in your area. And then tell us all about it. Ciao, Joe ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Apr 2000 09:09:49 -0400 From: "Jennifer Lynn Caputo" Subject: MM: Ann Arbor details Hey all, here is all the Ann Arbor questions answered! > Who is going to what show(s)? Well I don't know everyone going to each show. But Myself, Dave, and Don are going to both shows. Chris (shoes) is going to the first show (I think???) Greg will be coming if he can get a car since he will be in town! John Utrup is coming to the second show and maybe the first also, I can't remember.... OK, that was just off the top of my head, I know there are more but haven't had time to chug through my emails..hehe > Are people meeting *before* the 7 o'clock show? Not that I know of.... I won't be able to so that is why i was just setting things up for after the second show. If someone wants to arrange something before the first show then please do!!! > Where? After the 9:30 show we will be headed to the Fleetwood which is one block west of The Ark. When you walk out of the Ark take a left, walk to the corner (Liberty) take a left at Liberty, you should see it! > What time? My guess is that the show won't let out until at least midnight if the Sons of the Never Wrong are opening both shows... > Will you post directions? Directions to the Ark? Coming from 94 get off at Ann Arbor/Saline Road (Exit 175). There will be an arrow to Ann Arbor, and one to Saline - head towards Ann Arbor (North). That road will eventually turn into Main Street....just take that all the way down to the Ark. if you hit Liberty then you just passed the Ark - it was on your left hand side. Lots of one way streets in this area so be careful. If you take a right at liberty and then take the next right you should run into a parking structure for like $.80 an hour. If you take a left on the street past Liberty (washington???) and another Left at the first street you can turn left on you should again hit a parking lot for the same price. Of course there are meters all over the place but good luck parking at one! > And how do we meet up and recognize people- the M&Ms? Yes, Everyone wave around M & M's all the time! heheh > What if I eat all of my M&Ms on the ride over? ;) Bring two bags??? > Where are people meeting *after* the late show? Oh....already answered that one, see above. > Will people go as a group so the newbies to the area can find the place too, > or will somebody post directions? Already done so. It shouldn't be that bad coming from 94. However, if you are coming from 96W/14W then take 14 W to 23N following the signs to ann arbor. This is the Ann Arbor Business loop. exit 3 should be Main Street. You don't have a choice of which way to head on main street, it takes you straight downtown. The Ark will now be on your Right when you get up there. > Woohoo you guys....this is going to be such a great experience for me. > And thank you Jen - I got my package on Friday in the mail. Wooo :) Great! Enjoy the articles ;-) If anyone has any other questions about the ark their website is www.a2ark.org See you all soon :-) jen http://www-personal.engin.umich.edu/~jcaputo ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2000 15:12:11 EDT From: "Sarah Stanley" Subject: Re: MM: whooooo-hoooooo!! >i am so geeked about tonight's show at the ark!!! I just planned on looking at people's hands to see if they were holding it. haha...this is so crazy...i love it! :) dressing up? not me....i'm dressed up now for work...i'll just be in casual clothes. :) >p.s. one more day until i see bush with moby!!! YEAHHHHHHH! NPC: ooh!!! you're in for a treat! i saw them on 4/3 and it was great! I'm really a bigger Moby fan than Bush, but i do like Bush....eep! and gavin came into the bleachers were we were sitting and played his guitar from in the stands!!! right in front of us!!! he had no shirt on and i touched his arm and said "gavin you are so hot" as he walked back down. it was the coolest!! (okay, okay...i know i sound all 7th grade..but i can't help it! he's a cutie!) oh, and if you like moby and want to meet him he goes out and talks to fans and stuff right after his show - there is a break btwn sets. if you can get out and back in again, i'd go see him!! :) sarah ********************************************************** May you dream you are dreaming in a warm soft bed And may the voices inside you that fill you with dread Make the sounds of thousands of angels instead Tonight where you might be laying your head. -- Patty Griffin ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Apr 2000 23:08:44 EDT From: MistyBC@aol.com Subject: MM: Dixie Chicks: The Fly Tour Ahhh!
