Hi gorgeous MM thangs!

Well we've all talked about the dixie chicks and their version of "Let Him 
Fly", but I haven't seen anyone's review of Martina McBrides version of 
Patty's "Goodbye"

Just as the dixie chicks kept Let Him Fly in-tact, Martina didn't destroy the 
song. It sounds very similar to Patty's version -minus a zillion pounds of 
passion.


Anyone else hear it?

Subject: MM: Dana and diversion.... 

I was introduced to Kris Delmhorst's music by Dana and Elaine at a
benefit concert for Respond (a non-profit organization that provides
free services for battered women and their children).
It was an evening of magic for me.  I had recently moved to the area and
it had to be one of the best ways I could have experienced hearing
dozens of local female singer/songwriters in the Boston area, all of
them incredible.  I thank Dana and Elaine to this day for taking me to
that concert!!  If anyone is interested in hearing soundbytes, ordering
cds, or just reading about many of the local (up-and-coming and well
known) artists in New England, check out www.folkweb.com .  They have a
huge list of artists offered on their website and the soundbytes are
usually about 2 minutes, not the complete versions.  If you want a great
compilation cd, the Respond cd is a double cd and the proceeds go to a
great cause.  Another artist, not featured on that cd unfortunately, I
had the pleasure of hearing when she opened for Kris at Club Passim's in
Cambridge, is Meg Hutchinson.  Hearing her first cd (self-titled)
reminded me of how I felt the first time Patty's LWG. Goose bumps and
all.  Her most recent cd, Against The Grey never leaves my player
either. 
Don't take my word on it, just check out the website if you have time.  
Sorry for yet another diversion from Patty, but I HAD to put in a few
(okay, MANY) words.....

hey all -- NPC, but i do have this to add --   the director (and author)
of magnolia was paul thomas anderson, who is in fact fiona apple's current
beau (rumored to be engaged, but i don't know...).  so responding to an
earlier post about fiona's feelings about paul's dedication to aimee... i
found it very interesting that fiona wasn't even on the soundtrack at
all... anyone else have thoughts?
 however, she did all the artwork for the movie - (fiona, that is) -
if you look above the blond female co-star's bed in one scene (i forget
her name), there is a  very intriguing painting by fiona ---
hmmm..

The Austin Chronicle reports on the unfortunate state of affairs resulting
from the breakup of A&M Records and has this to say about Patty:

"Patty Griffin is another local artist whose career path was in question
after the (A&M Records) reshuffling, but now it seems that she's one of the
very few A&M signees who made the cut (her and Chris Cornell apparently) and
is now being handled by Interscope.  Griffin's guy pal Troy Campbell
confirms the news from New Orleans, where he's traveled to play some gigs
and peek in at the recording of her new album.  The first half of the album
is done, with Craig Rose coming in for the second, and Campbell says he's
confident nothing will go awry with her deal, noting, 'They've already paid
for recording, so if it's a joke, it's a really expensive one.' "

Just thought you MMers would be interested in this tidbit of info.
