I have been a fan of Aimee's for years, and was lucky to recently see her play live in at a Border's in-store apearance. She and Patty are tops in my book. The following link is an interesting article from the New York Times magazine on the saga of Aimee and her career. It's really unbelievable what she's been through, and the article paints a rather eye-opening picture of the busines of music. http://www.mindspring.com/~sauniere/1999/ny071199.htm At least Patty still has a label, having survived the huge purge at A & M. Mann was cut loose from Geffen, as was Maria Mckee, who I hear is currently financing her own record, ala Ms Mann. - -Pamela ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Feb 2000 03:02:09 -0500 (EST) From: BLUEHEN@webtv.net Subject: Re: MM: Re: NPC: Aimee Mann??? Hey guys...I know we've already diverted a little with the Aimee Mann (whom I love) discussion but does anyone know anything about Kris Delmhorst or Jess Klein? I've heard a little of their stuff - they're both pretty folky but have good sounds...any takers? thanks -joe ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Feb 2000 15:18:26 -0500 From: "Donald Henn" Subject: MM: Correction- Patty Info-Austin City Limits MMers , The info I posted before was taken from an Emmylou Harris page , & there was no mention of Patty. The following is courtesy of an MMer who was there. I stand corrected. Don > The show was basically Emmylou conducting a songwriters' in-the-round. The > musical guests were Julie Miller, Buddy Miller (Julie and Buddy were > formerly in Emmylou's band), Emmylou, Dave Matthews (no band), and Patty. > They went around the semi-circle each taking a turn singing a song. They > did three rounds. Dave Matthews got an extra song (apparently because he > shared some of his songs as duets with Emmylou -- such as a duet on "Long > Black Veil). Kimmie Rhodes also came out to sing two songs with Emmylou > that they had written together. > > Patty performed three songs. "Top of the World" was her first. That may > very well be the most gorgeous Patty song I've ever heard. Her next song > was a song she said she believes she's going to call "Truth No. 2" because > she already has a song called "Truth." That song was beautiful as well. > Her final song was "Mary," a song that Emmylou seems to personally love. > Emmylou shared that she went around making people listen to the song by > putting headphones on them and telling them "you've got to listen to this." > Patty also sang harmony with Julie Miller on one of her songs -- beautiful > as well. > > The show was incredible. The audience appeared to be in total awe when > Patty was singing. I've seen Patty a number of times and I don't recall any > better performance. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Feb 2000 16:50:52 EST From: Everyman7@aol.com Subject: MM: Jess Klein and Kris Delmhurst I have seen Kris 4-5 times now and Jess once in concert- they are both good- I found them to be fascinating performers to watch with interesting voices- they are song writers each with a distinctive style. Kris plays fiddle as well as guitar. Anyone who loves Patty's music could get into these singers as well. They are hot in Boston now. I would go to that Kris Delmhurst Bethesda house concert if only I was within a couple of hours drive from it! She did backup on the Catie Curtis tour last fall- she has such a good time onstage- you just have to love her. I don't beleive it. You mean you actually put on clothes in the bathroom? I do that in the bedroom. Unless of course, you were referring to taking care of some important business. Then I guess that would be kind of an original Patty Griffin story. Things that make you go hmmmmmm. Cool! Someone posted that they wanted to know about Patty Griffin? well, just go ahead and post questions and people will probably respond. That post seemed just max too general. I mean, hey. What do I know about Patty Griffin? Not a whole hell of a lot. Isn't her middle name like Jean or something? There ya go. And since the last 20 or so posts on this list were not really Patty Griffin related, I might as well add to the artist discussion stuff. KISS is coming to Pensacola!!! Dy-No-Mite!! Talk about great artists. these dudes know how to kick it loud. They used to play in the Roxy in Northampton in PA. And if any of you ever been to the Roxy, you would smack yourself in the ass trying to figure out how KISS got their equipment in there. But that was before they were popular (there's that 'p' word). i was even a member of 'da army' for a brief stint until my rents found out (I was only in 5th grade...whoops). Also, last night I got to see more amazing talent in action. Agent Orange actually came to Sluggos. The masters of punk are still around after all these years. Funny, they were old and fading like 15 years ago, and they're still together now. I guess talent just keeps them together. And to tie this all together and keep it Patty Griffin related,,,,,,, hmmmmmmm. how about.....It's great that patty Griffin is sounding more punk, now if only she'd paint her face, wear spikey leather, and stick her tongue out more often. Only THEN would she be ready for smoke. Smoke machines, baybee! They're the next ticket to fame. Oh, did I read that right? Patty Griffin was on Austin City Limits? Didn't someone post that she wasn't going to be on? Gee thanks a lot. Well, is it going to be repeated anytime soon? And speaking of Austin city limits...Does that Emmylou Harris chick live in Austin? I've admittedly only seen Austin City Limits about 4 or 5 times. And Ms Harris has been on it like every time. Then I'm all like "go emmy, go emmy, it's your birthday!" ALL RIGHTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's time for work to be over. Gotta go to the store and get toliet paper and milk. oooo, paul, thanks for reminding yourself. good job, dude.
