There are several Tori fans/philes on this list including myself. We've had a couple of Tori vs. Patty threads before which always generated interesting discussions. As for "Cooling," I don't see how anyone can listen to that song and NOT like Tori. It's an amazing ballad (I consider it one of the most beautiful love songs ever recorded) and the lyric you quoted from the song is just pure poetry: "And is your place in Heaven worth giving up these kisses, these kisses, yes..." The piano is just gorgeous and I was so happy that she included this song on her live album. The studio version is available as a b-side to the British "Spark" single--you'll have to look for it in the import section so I hope you have a decent record store nearby. If you find it, it's worth it because the single also includes a cover of Steely Dan's "Do It Again" which will knock your socks off. Feel free to email me privately and I can give you more info about "Cooling." There's a great, but sad, story behind it. Anyway, my apologies to the purists for the non-Patty post, but I haven't posted in a while so give me a break! ;-) -Cristina *********************************************** "Well I'm not seventeen, but I have cuts on my knees. Why couldn't Patty schedule the taping for the last weekend in October? Doesn't she know that that's when I'll be near NYC? Gosh, that would be so convenient for ME! Oh well, I guess I'll be sitting here in boring ol' Nashville, 1000 miles away, while all you lucky MM'ers have the times of your lives. One more reason to hate living in the South.... -Cristina P.S. Thanks to anyone who read this bitchy post. I just had to express my disappointment that I'll miss her performance by about 3 weeks. *********************************************** "Well I'm not seventeen, but I have cuts on my knees. Hi folks :-) Well, this is going to be a heck of a lot easier than I thought! :-) There isn't much you have to do to be eligible to be invited to the taping of Patty's "Sessions At West 54th", the acclaimed PBS Television music series. In case you missed the previous posts talking about it, Patty will be taped live in concert in midtown Manhattan on the afternoon of Saturday October 2nd (NEXT weekend!), in a small/intimate setting which barely seats 300 people, and best of all it's FREE! If you live in the New York City area, or can make the trip and definitely be there and would like to attend, all you have to do is send an email to: p_griffin_tix@freetix.com You do not have to put anything in the body of the email, but you DO have to put your FULL NAME (last name first, then first name) in the subject of the email. Please make sure you get all of this right before you send the request to the Sessions people, as it will make it easier for them to do their jobs. All requests must be received by Tuesday September 28th and all requests will be checked against the subscription logs of the Mad Mission lists. Just so you know, they have around 76-100 tickets set aside for members (plus one guest each) of the Mad Mission mailing lists, which means between 38 to 50 of you will be chosen/invited. (if you don't have a guest in mind, why not try and find one? You'd have two seats anyway...turn a friend on to Patty's music!). If you are one of the invited, the Sessions people will contact you sometime next week via email with all of the information you will need to attend. Once again, send your requests to: p_griffin_tix@freetix.com (do NOT send them to me) and have your last name, then first name in the SUBJECT of the email (it does not matter what you have in the body of the email) Good luck! Mike :-) P.S. At this time I do not know anything about whether or not this is acoustic, with the band, how long the gig will be start to finish (two weeks ago Jewel's was 3 hours), but if I find out anything I will send it on to the list. - - * The Patty Griffin/Mad-Mission@smoe List Homepage is at: * http://www.quackquack.net/pattyg * * Rachel Martin's Patty Griffin Lyrics Archive is at * http://www.geocities.com/Wellesley/3079/patty.html * * Jerry Zigmont's Flaming Red - A Patty Griffin Website is at * http://members.tripod.com/PattyGriffin * * Katie Peterson's Patty Griffin Guitar Tabs Archive is at * http://members.tripod.com/~Lifey/patty.html * * DuckOfPrey or WhyADuck55 on AOL and/or AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Sep 1999 17:03:45 -0400 From: Elaine Bean Subject: MM: Laurie Geltman House Concert Boston Rocker Laurie Geltman will be performing at my home in Watertown, MA on Nov. 7. As you probably know, Patty Griffin appears on Laurie's new CD "No Power Steering", so I thought some of the mad mishers might be interested in seeing Laurie too. Her music is awesome. If anyone in the Boston area is interested, email me and I will gladly send you detailed information. I don't want to clog up the list with an unneccesary posting. Listen to sound clips and find out about her at: www.lauriegeltman.com. Thanks again. Hi all. *****here's the ranting part..... skip a bit if you think I'm annoying****** Well, I'm getting a bit to be like the tomatoe seed....angry and red. It seems as though I'm not invited to play any of your reindeer games. Let me play my case..... Well, I thought it was great that Patty Griffin was going to be on "Sessions at West 54th". But to be honest, I never heard of it..and I'm thinking, "golly gee oh wiz, I watch PBS a lot and I never heard of that show." Then when someone mentioned it was on on the weekends, I again thought, "hey, I watch on weekends. Maybe I don't watch as much PBS as I thought." Well, I had my extensive research committee do some extensive research and came to freaking conclusion that MY FREAKING PBS Station doesn't carry that show. I mean I was getting all hot and bothered with the happiness that I would get to see Ms. Griffin on TV...possibly tape it....better than short Talk Show appearances. Now I'm about to go postal. I mean, here I'm living in Muck A Muck middle of nowhere. You at least think they'd give me Patty Griffin on the tube. Hey, maybe I can turn my bar tabs into money and fly up to see her live at Sessions. Anyway, I love Manhattan. Especially that McSorely's bar (that hot mustard is to die for). So go. see if I care. Go ahead and see her. fine then. Go. Go ahead, reindeers. But on some foggy night, just remember who has the nose, damn it. I'm gonna talk to Santa. ***********Regarding that sirens thread******************* Yeah the siren in "you are not alone" is chilly. I didn't hear it when we first talked about it last year, but one day last spring I'm just listening to the Living With Ghosts Cd and reading and I thought I heard something. Then I remembered about that siren stuff, so I skipped back a bit and listened to it again. It made the song a bit haunting. Cool. Well, I gotta go make plans to siphon petrol out of the employees' cars of the PBS station. (you should have seen what the previous sentence originally said. I changed it cuz it might have been interpreted as a felony.......I ain't gon ta jail fer no email). peace love and vegetable rights. ;) paul **************************************** * Alright, Harold. I'm sorry. * * I wasn't insulting her when I * * called her horse. I just meant she * * was a stable girl. * * --Red Green * **************************************** ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V3 #271 *********************************
