I've got tickets to see him, and I heard that she was opening for him in Philly -- last night I think -- soooo I was hoping that I'd see her with JP as well. My autumn will be significantly better if I'm able to see her live! Thanks! When the news first broke of Patty opening for Popper in Toronto, all anyone could find was a similar gig opening for him in Philly. I then wrote her management and was told that there was nothing else on the slate for Patty until those two gigs for December 1st & 2nd. I was actually hoping to get to go to it since I now live in the NYC area. If not, how can I get tickets or whatever, and where exactly is it located? I had heard that Sheryl Crow was going to be taping there last Sunday but I tried to find the place and couldn't. I checked the website but there was nothing there telling about the location (I assume it is on 54th street but I walked up and down it and saw nothing) and nothing about who is taping. I assume they have an audience but I have never seen the show on PBS (I don't get cable here at NYU). If anyone has any answers for me I would appreciate it. Thanks! Bauer" Subject: MM: Not really Patty related - but sort of.... Hi All - Mike here. Just wanted to share with the list a few musical experiences from my trip to the east coast last week. If y'all are looking for strictly Patty content, you may want to scroll down - but if you want to read something mildly entertaining pertaining to Patty, the list, friends, and all things musical, here goes: Almost a year ago, Sharyn (flakeybird) and I started corresponding via email after meeting on the MM list. Come to find out, we had quite a bit in common and our discussions became almost daily. For those of you who don't know her, she's currently in a band (which I'll get to a little later) and has been involved in music for almost 10 years. I almost fell out of my chair when she agreed to do an open mic with me if I made my way to the east coast - especially given the fact I'd never played in public before, and she had never heard me play. Talk about blind faith. At any rate, last week I did end up making it to the east coast. After an hour or two of rehearsal, Sharyn and I did an open mic at Van Gogh's Ear in Union, NJ. We did a rendition of "Sweet Loraine" and one of Sharyn's own songs - "Little Mother of Mexico." I gotta tell ya - It was one of the best experiences of my life. Even though I flubbed a chord in "Loraine" (Thank God Sharyn has a wonderful voice.), Sharyn insisted we sounded pretty good - which was backed up by the fact that three people came up to us afterwards - including the featured performer - and commented that they liked us. Wow.... But wait...there's more.... I was *supposed* to go to NC on Wed - obviously Floyd put a kink in those plans. So, I was stuck in Manhattan for a few more days. Sharyn and her husband let me stay at their place, and this gave me the opportunity to catch the band Sharyn's involved with - The Joe Rathbone band. These guys are great - I caught a show in Philly, where I got to meet Shar's grandfather, and in New Jersey, where I got to hang out with Joe, his wife Colleen, and Tim the bass player after the gig. On top of being a great band, they are all top notch people. If they come to your area, please make a point of trying to catch their show - it's definitely well worth it. Since we had some time to spare, Sharyn and I worked out a few more Patty tunes - "Goodbye", "Poor Man's House" (one of my personal favs) and "Christina" as well as a few Rathbone and Lucinda Williams tunes. I nailed down "Forgiveness" as soon as I got home - seems my ear is getting a lot better. Definitely a good thing. I'd like to thank Sharyn for being a great friend and for giving me the opportunity and confidence to do something I've wanted to do for a long time now. Thanks to Joe and the band for letting me be the "roadie pro tem" while I was there. It was an absolute blast. take care all, ~m michael j. bauer michael.j.bauer@worldnet.att.net ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V3 #268 *********************************
