AOL is a wealth of almost-Patty info this week... they have mp3s of that new 
Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris CD, and one of the mp3s is Falling Down.  
It's pretty short (30 seconds), and it's not incredibly impressive, but it's

Just a short note- while perusing the Miami Herald yesterday I came across an 
article on Bree Sharp.  Among her influences she listed our very own Patty 
Griffin. I see it a bit, in her ballads. Her album, "Cheap & Evil Girl", is 
pretty cool (not just for the "david duchovny" song, either).

I wish she would do some videos- it would really give her exposure too to new 
audiences. She has a most beautiful song - "Shells" about children being 
killed in Bosnia that would be a tremendous antiwar statement from a mother's 
perspective- not political. A video of that song would be chilling.  I always 
thought that "Not Alone" would make a good video. She wouldn't have to act in 
them if she preferred not to- shots of her singing with dramatic footage of 
other people acting or real life photos could be turned into memorable videos 
with vivid imagery. "Let Him Fly" and "Sweet Lorraine" would be good too. 
"Tony" "Good-Bye" "Little God" {I LOVE that song! The band makes it 
absolutely mesmerizing- I love the background music} So many others probably 
too- why doesn't somebody get on it?!?!!!

Sorry it took me all this time to post back...well only a day, but topics 
have changed considerably so I'll make this brief (yeah right)
Anyway,

good points, about the artist thing!

I know what you mean. And I can see your points of view. It's kinda like you 
don't pay an artist to make you a painting and then tell her exactly how to 
do it. Because then why have the artist in the first place.

However, I still have these weird "poor me" thoughts about musicians. I 
guess it stems from a little of two things. One, when I watched VH1 behind 
the scenes of Rob and Fab (milli vanili)...yeah I actually watched that, god 
knows why....and I was thinking, "hey, why should I feel sorry for them?" 
Cuz you know how that show gets. It tells you about the hardships musicians 
go through, blah blah blah. "oh poor Rob and Fab did this and almost jumped 
out of a building.." yeah, boo-hoo boo-hoo...next.

And the other thing my skepticism comes from is that in high school I was in 
this church choir and we toured. Well, it was frustrating to sing the same 
songs over and over and still look enthusiastic, especially since we knew a 
lot of other songs as well. But we just stuck to the certain playlist, the 
certain songs of each tour. It was lame-o to be sooo freakin happy while 
singing those boring songs over and over...and gosh by gone-it, if I had to 
do that for the audience, then every one else should too. !   ;)   
especially if they actually get paid for it. (IMOO)--in my obnoxious 
opinion. :P


On another note: I don't think there's anything wrong with tweaking songs to 
be pre-fab at all. I love Prodigy (as I'm listening to them right now). I 
love all that heavy, high energy, steady beat, pre-fab crap. It makes your 
mind glow. :)


Oh, and I don't shout anything at concerts, except for the occasional 
"Yeah!" I'm pretty mellow that way. All I really do is clap, or maybe woof a 
little bit like Arsenio Hall's dog-pound. I guess if I took downers or 
something I'd be comatose.

Gotta go work, now. lator gators.

peace, love and vegetable rights...although I've been senselessly killing a 
large amount of vegetables lately, killing and eating. doesn't that make me 
a hypocrite?
