A few hours of loud music here and there are not worth it when your hearing is eventually noticably damaged and you have a contant high-pitched squeal in your head 24 hours a day for the rest of your life. And please, don't kid yourself, if you go to loud rock shows, your hearing *is* being damaged, even if you don't notice it. Any continuous exposure to 100dB plus (such as at music shows) does permenant, irreversible damage, even if you don't notice it. All of that damage accumulates. It will catch up with you some day and you will not be a happy camper... to say the least. By all means, check out Patty, or whoever... but be smart and wear ear plugs. It amazes me how people these days use seatbelts, sunscreen, safety glasses, airbags etc. but no one protects their hearing. It really is incredibly stupid. - ---------------------------- David Lewis Digital & Print Media Design dlewis@hfx.andara.com - ---------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Aug 1999 06:51:33 -0700 (PDT) From: WJ in DC Subject: MM: ...Easy fellas!! I hate to say it...but they DO follow the schedule EXACTLY as it says on the website. It's a real shame that they just don't start the music earlier, and give everyone a decent amount of time to play...I mean, come on...20 minutes is not even enough time to warm up from an artists standpoint, and hardly long enough to even get into the music from a fan's standpoint. After seeing so many Patty shows, I've noticed that she ALWAYS gets stronger the longer she plays. I'm guessing the fans at Lilith aren't seeing Patty at her best, like they would if they saw her an hour into her set...I'll just hope that 20 minutes if enough time for new listeners. Sorry to report the bad news on set lengths Amy... Also, I don't post much negative stuff here...this seems to be a pretty negative email, so I'll continue. PLEASE...if you're going to harrass someone, do it privately ok? There are so many great people on this list, and I hate to think that over 100 FINE people have to read something that only one person in particular needs to read. Sorry for being so negative, I'll try to perk up before my next post. :-) Dave ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Aug 1999 18:40:07 -0300 From: David Lewis Subject: Re: MM: ...Easy fellas!! >> Gary Jacques >> wrote: >> Your kidding right? I'll keep it short. If there are any other followups, I will take it to email :) Gary, try to understand for a second where I'm coming from. I have tinnitus (constant ringing in my ears) as a result of loud music. It is a hellish thing to have, and there's no cure. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. My audiologist says that I can't go to *any* live music shows anymore, ear plugs or no ear plugs... and that's the least of my concerns. So, from my perspective, it's not really possible to find anything funny in comments about music so loud that it "makes your ears bleed" or whatever. I ***know*** you were just kidding around, making fun of people that say's it's too loud, etc. I understand that. But hearing damage is not funny. Ok? All I'm saying is, wear ear plugs at concerts. It's as simple as that. - ---------------------------- David Lewis Digital & Print Media Design dlewis@hfx.andara.com - ---------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Aug 1999 17:02:14 -0500 From: "Erin" Subject: MM: Newport Hey there. I had the pleasure of experiencing Patty's kick-ass set at Newport on Sunday. I got the impression that many people who hadn't heard her before were blown away - closing with "Mary" was a sure way to rope em' in for good. Snapped some mighty fine photos. I'll try and get them up on a site for y'all to check out ASAP... Most of the photographers hadn't seen her live before & said that they were utterly impressed by how expressive a singer she is, both emotionally and physically. Nothing we didn't already know. Hadn't heard her sing "Little God" before. Sounds like it will be on the new album. I believe the set-list was: Flaming Red, Sweet Lorraine, Tony, Goodbye, Little God, Mary. That's all for now... lovin' this list...
