Patty (and her boyfriend, Troy Campbell) sing backup on several songs, and they sound great. And Ray Wylie Hubbard is one of those Texas singer/songwriters that everyone should experience. Robin ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jul 1999 19:27:52 -0400 From: lgrady@LNMTA.bentley.edu Subject: MM: Newport, the Nields, and a Music Suggestion Hi All! I was wondering if anyone was going to the Newport Folk Festival - it's a great lineup, including PATTY! I'd love to run into some mad-mishers there...Anyone know if she's playing with or without the band? I got spoiled - the last time I saw her, she did a full acoustic set! (I actually like the band, but I'm a big sap - nothing touches me like acoustic music, especially patty's!) Anyone go to Falcon Ridge? WHAT A GREAT FESTIVAL! If you haven't gone, give it some consideration - I have the best time every year! Email me for some info or insights Someone mentioned the Nields Nook - is that a good list? I'm a new convert to Katryna, Nerissa and the Daves- is there a digest version? A quick suggestion - if you have the chance - pick up the Lori McKenna album "Paper Wings and Halo" - if you liked LWG, you will very likely love this album! If you're going to Newport - I believe that Lori will do at least a song or two during the Respond Artists set on the little stage - you should catch her! I haven't fully been following the big fight - but Mimi, if you're lurking - I'm sad that you've gone - I always enjoyed your input to the list! - - Laurel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jul 1999 19:33:57 EDT From: UMCaner74@aol.com Subject: MM: recent posts, NPC..just my thoughts Patty fans around the world.. :-) I just want to say, that no matter what your "credentials" on any given topic, I enjoy reading everyone's opinion on any topic involving Patty. Whether you're a big Patty fan who's never seen her, whether you're a sound engineer in a recording studio, a record label exec. OR, maybe one of the DAMN lucky souls in Patty's band (who I personally think are 100 times luckier than anyone who's ever won the lottery)... I value your opinions. Whether it be Patty-related, or more technically speaking..as to sound setups, or how record companies work. I joined this list to talk about Patty, and all different aspects of her music. Live performances, to rare recordings, to what she does in her spare time. Whatever the topic of the day is, as long as it involves Patty, it's interesting to me. I read every post to this list. Quite frankly, I can't get enough of Patty's music, and I can't seem to get enough of talking about her music. Some call me a Patty freak...so be it. People have differing opinions on EVERYTHING in life. This may be comparing night and day, but there will always be someone out there to disagree with someone when they say the sky is blue... The point is...we are here to discuss the GREATEST singer/songwriter that I have ever heard. We are kinda like a family here...I encourage everyone that may not normally post to the list b/c they feel "not qualified" to speak up!! Maybe you feel you don't want to voice your opinion b/c you think you just don't know enough about the subject... well, I think that it would be great to hear more people's opinions whenever there is a really good topic of conversation. I'm pretty much of a moron, and even I have something interesting to say every now and then... There may have been a few posts last week where people got offended, and said things they didn't really mean to say b/c they were angry or hurt at the time. All I can say is that if you have anything more of a difference of opinon with someone, and it really has nothing to do with Patty...I think 99% of us don't want to read it on the list. With that said..I'm very happy to be in this "community" with all of you. All of you who I've emailed with, some of you that I've met, are really great people. I think that Patty's music and the meaning of her music attracts a very nice group of fans. I have been on other emailing lists, and in my opinion, Patty's fans ARE the best. Take care everyone.. Does anyone know how many stations >she is on and what kind of rotation she gets? WRNR-FM in Annapolis, MD, which bills itself as "progressive, roots radio" or something like that these days, plays her music. I heard "Blue Sky" today, in fact. You can also listen on the web at http://www.wrnr.com with Real Audio. If you like Patty Griffin, you might like their programming, although they're playing rather more "classic rock" than they used to. But even that tends to be offbeat. When was the last time you heard the Electric Prunes? >P.S. I just thought I'd let everyone know that my e-mail moniker has nothing >to do with me being a flake, it has more to do with snowflakes and birds. Glad you clarified that ;-). - --Helen * * * * * * * * * My thought for the week: Unsolicited advice is often unappreciated, even when not actively resented. Did you appreciate that?
