When I lived in Boston, I'd wonder every year why Patty wasn't playing at The Newport Folk Festival. So, I move to Atlanta, GA and they finally book her! Well, I talked to my boyfriend and we've decided to fly up for the weekend. Whoohoo! I've been the the festival a half dozen times and it's always wonderful. Patty is playing on Sunday, August 8th. Other highlights that day include Ellis Paul, Susan Tedeschi, Suzanne Vega and The Indigo Girls. The Saturday show has a great lineup as well. My favorites for that day are Merrie Amsterburg, Melissa Ferrick, Martin Sexton, Beth Orton and Joan Armatrading. Sounds like two days of ecstacy! "Maybe I missed it, or maybe I'm just out of touch with things, but... what the hell is an UTNE??? I even went to the website to try to find out what it stood for and all I came up with was utne! So, now it's driving me CRAZY!!!!" Though I'm not positive about this, I'm pretty sure that UTNE Reader is a magazine named after it's founder, Eric Utne, and is devoted to (and I use these terms hesitantly) "new age" or alternative thoughts, literature, etc... but I'm sure someone else can offer a more thorough description... I'm sort of ending all of my magazine subscriptions because I've been a bit overwhelmed, but the UTNE Reader fits in well with my subscriptions to Tricycle, New Age Journal, Yoga Journal, etc... I'm certain it would appeal to most PG fans who enjoy reading... It is not an anagram though it certainly could be made into something interesting... AND... As a new member to the list, I vote for TONY... And as a resident of the Southern states, I'm a bit saddened that PG has relatively few play dates in the area, BUT I will be in Nashville this weekend and decided to impose myself on friends a couple of extra days to see PG with Lucinda Williams.... I have tickets for Tuesday... PG will be there, right? - --Keith ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 May 1999 12:55:56 -0500 From: Erin DeRuggiero Subject: MM: Thanks... Just wanted to thank everyone for casting their votes. In response to some of your comments... I love the song 'Mary', though we thought it better to pick a more upbeat & rockin' tune for the CD. That song will remain a hidden treasure for those that purchase the CD after hearing the compilation - same goes for 'Go Now'. Love that lounge singer, sultry Ella Fitzgerald Esq sound... that too will remain a hidden gem, but not as appropriate for the compilation's overall feel. Something upbeat that rocks was the consensus. Ahhh. A lot of votes for 'Tony' and 'Carry Me'.... I'm still torn - - so many good tracks & we can only choose one! I'll let you know which one it will be when we speak with A&M. I can't tell you how helpful it was to read your postings... Thanks again!!!! About the release of the CD - it will be distributed nationally by Rykodisk & will also be available through the magazine. You'll be able to find it easily... As for the Indigo Girls and Van Morrison... they're both on the list - as is Lucy Kaplansky for Red House Records (right here in Minneapolis!). If you have any more brainstorms, please feel free to send your thoughts my way. I appreciate your comments/suggestions & look forward to hearing from you! Many many thanks... I was wondering if anyone knows the broadcast date of the public radio Mountain Stage show Patty appeared on April 25. Did anyone happen to catch it live? The week beginning Fri., May 21, Mountain Stage featuring PATTY GRIFFIN will be broadcast. The date will vary according to your local public radio station's Mountain Stage broadcast. You can visit http://www.wvpubrad.org for your own locale! I'm going to the Cincinnati show at Bogart's this Saturday. Anyone else?
