But I don't know much about the technical side. I interpreted it as they were trying to make the sound more hard rock, maybe even more heavy-metalish, to attract the younger audience that Conan appeals to (e.g. males 14-22?). Maybe I thought this because Conan had made a joke in his monologue about "Metallica." I figured if that's the reference that the audience understands, maybe that's what was in the mind of whoever arranged the song. Or maybe mixed the sound. However, as Socrates says, true knowledge is knowing that you know nothing. So I must be really knowledgeable - about something. Take care. I keep hearing people talking about it all the time but I keep telling myself, "Self, no one is gonna send you a tape of rare Patty Griffin tunes" but please please please if you are out there and you can make a copy of whatever you have I will be forever grateful........and I do mean forever. I won't waste my time explaining how much Patty means to me seeing that I'm on this list and I read EVERYTHING daily. It's just that last summer I had Flaming Red and Living With Ghosts blaring from my car.......I would love to have something a little different this summer. If ANYONE has ANY information on how I could get a copy of a tape PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE email me!!!!! I would sooooooooo appreciate it! There, phew, was that humble enough? Also, did anyone notice the acoustic guitar behind her? I totally thought she was gonna bust out on the acoustic, but it was just a tease. I wanted my parents to see it so they could understand why I'm so obsessed. They watched it. They didn't like it. I'm sad. I thought she did great though. If i were to sing on national television, I'd probably puke on the camera (sorry for the nasty image)......I guess it's a long process to overcome that. Let's hope she kicks some major ass on Letterman. But in a sense, that would mean we'd have to share her with LOTS more people...... Enjoy your day. I'm currently working on putting together a track list for an Utne Reader CD compilation, to be released by Rykodisk, entitled: "Storytellers". We've come up with an impressive list of singer/songwriters - Dar Williams, Emmylou Harris, Ben Harper, Kelly Willis, Lyle Lovett, Bonnie Raitt, Ani, Tom Waits, Beth Orton, Natalie Merchant, John Hiatt, Shawn Colvin, Me'shell N'degeocello, among others. My top pick for this CD was Patty (of course) since she blows everyone else out of the water. I have to choose a track from Flaming Red that wasn't released as a single. I was thinking 'Change' or 'Carry Me'. What do you think? These are two of my current faves - I love em' all - but for this compilation, I want something that's going to make people stop in their tracks, go over to the CD player, and turn up the volume. For some reason 'Carry Me' and 'Change' make me feel a lot of what 'Forgiveness' still evokes when I hear it - that special something that makes you melt. The list of artists isn't yet set in stone, so if you have suggestions, I'd love to hear them. We are just in the beginning stages; A&M Records hasn't yet been approached for Patty's song, so I'll keep you posted. Thanks for listening, I look forward to your input! I love the artists you mentioned. What about Van Morrison? He's been mentioned lately. I'm a late bloomer, but I'm quickly falling in love with anything that man sings, old and new. This compilation sounds awsome! I love everyone you named. Will this be available nationwide -- in other words, can I get it here in Bloomington, IN? As far as Patty's selection, Change is a great song, but I've heard it on the local radio station here. I thought it had been released, but maybe not. The station often plays album deep cuts. My personal choice is Mary. That song is so packed with emotion, I can't hardly stand it sometimes. Very moving. If, however, you're looking for something more upbeat, Change is perfect.
