Hey everyone, I've read alot of the responses to my post but, the one thing that is missing is - consideration for non-american MM'ers. Everybody's talking about places like nashville and wisconsin but, do you realize it would cost me nearly $2,000 Cdn.! to get there, buy my ticket, eat for the weekend, find somewhere to stay, and then get home. Now before anyone freaks out, I am aware that most on the list are American but, nobody comes to Canada until they're "famous" and by then the intimacy is GONE!!! because they play huge venues. I could make it without too much stress, to anywhere near the ontario border (detroit, buffalo, even maine). I like the idea of doing it in her hometown which IS oldtown, maine. I got goosebumps reading the post about a livingroom concert, and I would TOTALLY be willing to pay that to spend the evening with her and all you MM'ers. Problem is again - location. How the @#$% would I get there. If anybody has any thoughts or can help - PLEASE!!! (I'll give you FREE crisis counselling for the rest of your life!!! :-)) I am a trained crisis counsellor. Hey all, I can't believe all the MM mail in my box! Okay, I'm up for Chicago (7 hours away, not too bad), Austin (would give me an excuse to go back home to Tejas), or OF COURSE Nashville since, well, I live here. I know that Southwest Airlines will give a discount for groups of 10 or more to a destination if a bunch of y'all are willing to wing it to a Patty show. I have a credit on both Southwest and American so basically I could fly to any "Patty-stock" show (within reason). As for the "what would I ask Patty if I got the chance" question: well I'm REALLY intimidated by people that are "celebrities" or "rock stars." I saw Patty live a few months ago and I could totally tell that Patty was the sweetest person in the world, just from how nice she was to some fans that wanted her autograph right before the show. But I just couldn't get the nerve to go up to her and I was literally sitting about 7 feet in front of her!! I did the same thing with Tori Amos after waiting about 9 hours to talk to her. She finally made her way to me and I froze. I only managed to say hello and thanked her for signing my CD. What the hell do you say in 5 seconds? (Actually, I wrote a poem about this experience) There's just tooooo much that I want to share with both Patty and Tori because I feel that they've shared so much with me through their music and shows. Tori's music has literally changed my life and Patty is an artist that I can totally see influencing my vocal style already. So basically, if I had the chance, I would want to meaningfully express that to Patty and manage to NOT sound like a blubbering idiot. Oh well, maybe I'll get the chance (and the nerve) someday.... ---Cristina ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Apr 1999 07:20:04 -0700 (PDT) From: Wendy J Subject: Re: MM: Meeting Patty On meeting patty.... It's not as hard as it seems, folks. I've met all kinds of people simply by walking up to them before or after the show, hanging out near the backstage door, or going to a record signing at a record store: stevie nicks, melissa etheridge, ben watt and tracy thorne (everything but the girl), sinead o'connor, toni childs. Since patty isn't hugely famous yet, i'm sure it's just a matter of hanging around after the show and asking anyone who looks like they have any authority at all if they could get her to come out and sign cds. or try to ask her before she leaves the stage after her final song if she'll come out in a few minutes to sign cds. i'm sure she'd be more than willing. or...ask the manager of the club before the show if she or he could ask patty to hang around a bit after the show to sign cds. i'm sure it would go over well, since patty sells alot of her merchandise at the show. it could even help her sell more! anyways, just a thought! i'm planning to get patty's autograph at one of her dc area shows by using at least one of those tactics. wish me luck!! - --WJ - --- Hejjira1@aol.com wrote: > So let me get this straight......all I have to do is > go up to the soundman > (who, by the way, is that?) and ask to speak to > Patty and I'm in??? I just received word from her management that Patty has been booked for two major late-night network talk shows :-) On Friday May 7th, she will appear on the Conan O'Brien show on NBC television. This show follows the Tonight Show with Jay Leno in most areas (12:35am EST). Of course check your local listings for your area/timezone. Also, on Tuesday June 15th she will be on The David Letterman Show on CBS television, which is on at 11:35pm in the EST time zone. In other news, her musical contribution (Twisted Road) for the Susan Sarandon film "Anywhere But Here" is complete and they are just waiting for a decision from "the powers that be" as to whether or not it will actually be in the film and on the soundtrack CD. Her management did not have any information as to a potential release date for the CD (didn't someone post they read April 27th??). Looking forward to FINALLY having some VIDEO of Patty singing, Mike :-) - - * The Patty Griffin/Mad-Mission@smoe List Homepage is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/pattyg/pattyg.htm * * Rachel Martin's Patty Griffin Lyrics Archive is at * http://www.geocities.com/Wellesley/3079/patty.html * * Jerry Zigmont's Flaming Red - A Patty Griffin Website is at * http://members.tripod.com/PattyGriffin * * Katie Peterson's Patty Griffin Guitar Tabs Archive is at * http://members.tripod.com/~Lifey/patty.html * * DuckOfPrey or WhyADuck55 on AOL and/or AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Apr 1999 18:47:42 EDT From: JohnRN24@aol.com Subject: Re: MM: HELP!!!!!! Well, I've seen Patty three times and I have met here after every show. You really just have to sort of hang around, ask the manager or someone in the band if she might be willing to sign some stuff, whatever. Then again, she could also just dart into the bus and disappear. There are no guarantees. But with Patty, you do have a good chance to meet her if you just hang out a while and ask around a bit. Also, I usually had to wait about 30 minutes each time I met her... you know, after most people have left and things are pretty calm. - ---------------------------- David Lewis Digital & Print Media Design dlewis@hfx.andara.com - ---------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Apr 1999 20:11:27 EDT From: UMCaner74@aol.com Subject: Re: MM: Patty booked for Letterman & Conan O'Brien! :-) OH MY GOD!!!
