To me, her voice is awfully twangy but I do like her songwriting and her style. Her singing just doesn't really do it for me, unfortunately. I guess it helps to say that my benchmark for music I love is Sheryl Crow and Patty, of course, so that gives y'all an idea of where I'm coming from. I've got tickets for Patty and Lucinda next week so I'm eager to hear set lists and opinions about the show. I'm a bit bummed that Patty is reported to be appearing solo here in Portland, OR. I know a lot of you would love that but for me, I'm a much bigger fan of FR than LWG and darn it I want that bass and drums and guitars and split my eardrums volume! Ack, what do I do but come out of major lurk mode and then ramble on in incoherent sentances... must be late... back to my corner. LeeAnne ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Feb 1999 02:07:37 -0800 From: G Perez Subject: MM: Patty on TV/Rosie Flores & Lucinda Williams Yes, ASCAP has a lot to do with songs getting played on certain WB programs. But labels are not the deciding factor on which artists' songs are picked. It really comes down to if the songs fit. If that were the case, we'd hear Tori's "Winter" everytime Dawson starts daydreaming about Joey -- which would be non-stop. There are plenty of IMG/IGG/BMG artists getting heard on many WB series. And, I believe, the album promos at the end are songs that were prominently featured in the episode (30-60 seconds though I think it varies on line counts). Also, I believe the Dawson's Creek and Felicity TV soundtracks are being released on Columbia Records -- which is the result of a deal made between Sony and Warner for a music/TV association. - --- Rosie Flores and Lucinda Williams are country rockers that have been playing the bar/club circuit for years.Though while Lucinda is finally getting the overdue rewards for her latest brilliant effort, Rosie is still working toward that forseeable success. Look for a live album from Rosie on 3/2 to get a taste of what this lady can do and if you want a comparison... Wanda Jackson meets Chuck Berry. This is one of the best lineups for this genre of music that Hollywood will ever see. Also, look for many Grammy celebrants to filter in as the night goes on... gp ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. It was to say the least a goosebump raising experience!!! I live in Suburban Philadelphia, and there is a public radio station here that beats any radio station ive ever heard. They have an outdoor music showcase every summer for new music. Last summer Patti played on the waterfront in Philadelphia. That was the first time id ever seen her live, and almost brought me to tears, her voice and intensity were incredible! I look forward to seeing her again. Hopefully plan to travel out west this summer, i understand shes been touring extensively out there. Im hoping to catch her along the way! Anyway it was nice to read your mail, I hope youll write back, and keep me informed of your likes and Patti experiences! I love music, Philadelphia is truely a Mecca for great tunes, and its great to live here. If you ever get a chance, theres a Local band here called , Gray Eye Glances. They have two Cd's, and they are an incredible band, as a matter of fact they were on the summer bill last summer along with patti. That day was very fulfilling for me! Pick up their CD sometime i guarantee youll love them! take care, and hope to write again. I am good company so anyone who's got an extra ticket to anything else down here email me privetly at gitsloth@gte.net . Anyway, i saw Patty twice last year and my best friend only saw her once. I told my best friend to go drive her little self down to HOB and find herself some extra tickets. I wanted her to go see our little Ruby Maroon. She found a way to let me know and ... SHE GOT IN!!! I'm just so happy for her, I just wish I could be there. So, as shot to hell as my dreams of seeing Patty are this year I guess something really good came out of it. take care all and keep us posted on how much Patty kicks butt!! v ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V3 #52 ********************************
