Hello all, Can someone please tell me the best method to record a live show. I've been using just a small cassette recorder, sometimes it's OK, sometimes not so. Any help is greatly appreciated. I'll have my people call your people and they'll do lunch. since I only read my emails like once a week (sometimes, depending on my work loads)I'm always so late with my posts, but alas, I shall deal with the situation. Before I start talking about Ms. Griffin, let me respond to the following: "Hello all, Can someone please tell me the best method to record a live show. I've been using just a small cassette recorder, sometimes it's OK, sometimes not so. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Tim Atwell" Uh, I would have to say that the best way to record a live show would be to NOT record a live show unless you have like written permission or something. I could very well be wrong, but me thinks that recording shows in the way you described is called "stealing". It goes along with things like taking pictures, making t-shirts, and stuff like that. So, I would probably say that the best way to record a live show would be to PURCHASE the offical release at the local music store. ;) Speaking of everything legal.... I am managing to stick Patty Griffin songs into our (well not MINE, Gulf Coast Network's) community calendar segment we air on television. I was about to pop in the old generic shtuff when I thought, "hey, why not stick in Patty Griffin's Flaming Red?" And yeah, we can legally do this cuz we got that ASCAP thing going on. So, I'll be blarin Patty Griffin, baybee!!! whooo whooo whooo! :P Oh, yeah. I was gonna talk about favs. Well, I have to say that "Moses" and "Every Little Bit" just grab me senseless. They were my first and dearest Patty Griffin listens way back when I was a PG virgin. I mean, come on. All that "I spit in the eye, I tear out my heart, I scatter the bits.....but tonight I clearly recall every little bit." Das jus sum parful werds. It still gets me. It's like that 19 year old writing that "want to put my tender heart in a blender, watch it spin around to a beautiful oblivion." God, how freaking powerful are these words? And "Moses" is just smoov like butta. It's not only talking about being lonely, but also how your supposed "friends" don't even give a rats ass about your problems, always talking about themselves. I also can't let the deck slip out from under me without mentioning "Mad Mission". I'm totally there watching Casablanca at that bar, all by myself, thinking that maybe everyone else there was as sad as me. Man, been there. done that. On the Flaming Red side, I still can't express the umph I get out of "Flaming Red." Right from the start with that "give me an OH!" "OH!" and the double-time drum beat. It just makes me say, "God, I love this woman!" Plus the fact of her wearing her red shoes. Now whenever I put on my old Red Chuck Taylors I start singing that song. It almost makes them special foot gear (for I have no songs to sing with my Airwalks or green Chuck Taylors, just those flamin red shoes.) One thing that still bothers me, is that I really really really love "Go Now" even though it seems Ms. Griffin does not (at the end of the song it sounds like she says, "aw man that fuckin kills me") Well, I'll tell you, buckos, even if she doesn't like that particular song, I thrive on it. I don't know, for some reason I can relate to it. It would be a total ab fab song to sing at the bar while drunk, or even with a group of drunk friends walking to the next place of destination. And of course "One Big Love" just is killer ab fab. Ms. Griffin really lets her vocals shine. And I must mention (must I?) the ending of "Wiggly Fingers" when her voice gives out. it just makes her sound so cute, and it sounds like she really didn't mean to do that, but it sounded good when it happened, so it stayed on the album. Okay, that was a mince amount to write. I've stayed here longer than I should. Time to go home and pick my nose. I love reading your stuff. It is always so thought provoking. Oh, and it's been in the 70's all week here (with yesterday reaching 80), I cannot believe this is February Weather. Mardi Gras is reaching high limits right now. I've got to go shoot footage for two parades this weekend, and I think I must (must I?)attend a few more Krewe parties. It is amazing what people do down here. (and this isn't even New Orleans, although a three hour drive gets me eating Red Beans and Rice with the best of 'em.) And don't hate me cuz I'm warm. At least YOU get to see Patty Griffin LIVE IN CONCERT. I'll trade ya. I LIKE snow. I hope this post didn't sound too "macho" har har har. :D You wonderful people just make my day. Keep up the great posts,. ;) Peace, Love, and Vegetable Rights FOREVER! paul *************************************************** * Here's a little tip for ya.
