Vickie ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Dec 1998 02:19:09 EST From: UMCaner74@aol.com Subject: MM: Patty's Baltimore Performance.. Hi Guys, Here I am again..smiling from ear to ear because I just got home from seeing Patty rocking in Baltimore!!! She was playing an "unplugged" Christmas concert for a local radio station, which made me wonder..does this mean she will be solo?? does this mean she will be unplugged with band?? I had no idea what to expect... Well..the performance ended up being with band and semi-unplugged. Doug was playing electric guitar, and the rest of the band was playing acoustic. The drums were a smaller more scaled down set. Patty must be listening to a recent post..because she started the show with a full band version of Sweet Lorraine. I don't know if one of the band members read that post..or if they just decided to try this..but it went over very well...to me, nothing could possibly compare to the original, but this was very nice for a change!! Since this was a festival with 4 different bands..Patty was only able to play 7 songs, which was the only slight disappointment of the evening, but hey..I have absolutely no complaints.. I will never ever complain about being given the opportunity to see Patty..whether it's 1 song, or 20...the only disappointing thing was that the next band to play after Patty (not mentioning any names) was about the most boring band I have ever had the pleasure of seeing perform live..Since most of the audience seemed to be in agreement, I just wish more time could have been devoted to Patty. Like I said though..I'm very grateful to have seen her at all. Ok..I did manage to steal the set list..again..here's what it says.. Sweet Lorraine (Fox) Change (Fox) Flaming Red (Gibson) Wiggley Heinstein's Lament...Hmm??.. Tony Little God (Taylor) Mary I know Fox and Gibson are Patty's guitars that she used during those songs..but if anyone knows what Taylor means..I'm just curious...She had 3 guitars up there..but I'm not sure if Taylor is the 3rd guitar or not..does anyone else care about such things but me?? Ok..all the songs from Flaming Red and Little God were a lot different than what I'm used to hearing on this tour, but once again it was very nice for a change. Tony, Wiggley Fingers, and Flaming Red really lacked the heavy impact of what they normally have Live, but both of them were still wonderful! Anyone who has seen Patty play Wiggley Fingers this tour must answer this question for me..Patty does not play guitar during this song, and she is just dancing around in front of the mike having such a wonderful time..I swear it's the most adorable thing I have ever seen... Does anyone else that has seen this tour think likewise?? Just the thought of it at any time is enough to make me smile. :) After Patty was done I really wanted to go back and try to talk to her again..since last time I met her was pretty much a disaster. If any of you read my post from last time, I struggled to just get words out, a complete sentence was certainly not possible..However, all the band members just kind of disappered as soon as she was done. Last time I just asked the Tech/soundman if I could get some things signed, and he was happy to get me to meet her..this time I could not find him either..I guess I will have to wait till next time!! It's ok though, her performance left me satisfied enough! Anyway..I think this is already longer than what most of you would have liked to have read..so I'll stop now..I just had to share the evening with you all! Oh..one other thing..I have seen posts where people have said Patty has played Moses and Every Little Bit at certain stops on this tour. I have heard her play Sweet Lorraine..I'm wondering if anyone has heard any other songs from LWG on this tour?? It's hard to believe that she would not play Poor Man's House in particular, but also hard to believe that she wouldn't play some others as well...I just can't recall anyone posting that she has... Ok..well I'll let you all go now.. Have a great weekend everyone! I had never heard of Jules Shear before, but I gave the album a chance because of the artists that he duets with. Well, I'm glad that I did, because this is one of my favorite CDs of the year. Jules is a terrific folky songwriter. And by his choice of collaborators, he obviously has terrific taste in music. Paula Cole, Freedy Johnston, and Margo (Cowboy Junkies) Timmins turn in terrific performances. The showstopper, though, is his duet with Patty Griffin on "Windows and Walls". It's Patty at her wailing best. This album is an absolute must for any true Patty fan. I'm over here on the westcoast and when I saw her at the Coach House in Santa Barbara Patty did play Poor Man's House. She also played Every Little Bit but for the most part the show consisted of Flaming Red tracks and that lovely song we all know as Crazy. Getting a bit side tracked, everytime Patty sang, "I'm crazy," I couldn't help but laugh. It's hard not to with this tiny, wipping red haired, raving loony dancing around the stage prior to that song - cracked me up. It just seemed strange to me that I've seen her 4 times on the Flaming Red tour, and every time the only song I've heard from LWG was Sweet Lorraine. I had seen posts where people said that she played Every Little Bit and Mad Mission, I think I even saw a post where she played Moses. I had not heard anyone say that she played Poor Man's House. I think everyone would agree that this is one of her best live songs, and I was just finding it strange that she does not seem to be playing it anymore. Now I know she does play it...just not when I see her..:) OK, well thanks again Vanessa for the info!
