Hey Everyone... I just wanted to share my enthusiasm with all of you cause on Saturday morning, at 9am, tickets for Patty's Nov. 7 show in Austin, TX, go on sale....!!!!!!!!!! AND...Its gonna be my first Patty show...and I've been waiting for over a year now to see her...and have missed two opportunities... She'll be playing at the Texas Union Ballroom, on the University of Texas campus...the ballroom has been described to me as a very small venue, club sized, and fairly ornately decorated with a lot of wood, and a really rich atmosphere...so, I, of course, will be ecstatic to see her. And I really, really, really hope that I can mirror the experience of getting to meet Patty, as quite a lot of you MMs have...I'll take any suggestions on how to go about meeting her...do I just hang around after the show forever...or what???? Anyhow...I hope you all have a great weekend, and that everybody seeing Patty this weekend has a excellent time... Hey, all you Mad Missioner's who live in Austin, we need to form an alliance and work together towards being able to meet Patty after the show. Don't laugh, but maybe we could form an Austin fan club, and all wear some kind of uniform piece of clothing or t-shirt...and then, in Utopia, we'd get VIP treatment...and be recognized for our fanaticism! And, could any of ya'll in Austin give me more details about the nature of the Ballroom. Will there be chairs in rows, or will it be standing up concert, or what???????? There are no prices listed in the Chronicle, and it says nothing about General Admission or seating...so I am left wondering what is going on!!!! Joshua San Marcos, Texas ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Oct 1998 16:11:40 -0400 From: "Perlman, Judith" Subject: MM: Not Patty-related I just heard there is going to be a concert in the Manhattan Ballroom with Mary Chapin Carpenter (I can never remember where that hyphen goes so I'm leaving it out) and Catie Curtis. I know some people here like Catie Curtis. I don't know the date but if you're interested, email me & I'll find out. This also has nothing to do with Patty but, I'm conducting an informal survey: when you've seen construction workers at sites - digging up big holes in the street, renovating buildings, working on highways, etc. - what percentage would you say you've seen working and what percentage not working? Please don't flame me out. Have a good weekend. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Oct 1998 15:44:33 -0500 From: rblack1@io.com (Ronda Blacksher) Subject: Re: MM: Austin, Texas...Patty Tickets On Sale Saturday!!!!! Hi all. New to the list. Joshua - I live in Austin and went to school at UT. The ballroom is nice - very intimate (what you've heard thus far is on the money). I'm not sure about standing; suspect rows of chairs. Patty has played a couple of times at the Cactus Cafe on campus and I'm always amazed at the crowds. Point being, tickets ASAP are a really good idea! :) The last time I saw her, they ran about 12$, I think (well worth it, of course). I'm not sure I'd sign up for fan-club attire :), but would certainly like to meet others from around these parts that are going. I went to the Frazier Tour 2 nights ago, featuring Glen Phillips from Toad, John Doe from X, Steve Poltz from the Rugburns, and Pete Droge. It's a month or two tour covering many cities, and I highly recommend it if it hits your area. I don't have the entire schedule, but I think if you go to www.houseoftoad.com you may find it. Someone posted it on this list as well. I went, as many I discovered around me, to see Glen Phillips especially with the end of the band. I knew of the others, especially Pete Droge who writes beautifully and has a real southern twang to his music. After seeing him perform a solo acoustic set, I was mesmerized. He's up there with Patty now. I know, I know, BIG claim to make. He has a wonderful voice, lots of intensity, and is a great musical storyteller as well. He doesn't have much to say in between songs. I mostly love the way he rocks with his band (on the albums). He's often been compared to Tom Petty, if that inspires anyone. Oh...the others were good too. Glen surprised his fans by not sticking to only Toad tunes, Steve Poltz is hilarious, and John was a lot of fun. Poltz co-wrote "You were meant for me" with Jewel and is featured in the infamous video with her. Go to the show if you enjoy solo acoustic acts. The more live music I fill my life with the more fulfilled I feel. carol ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Oct 1998 16:37:33 -0700 (PDT) From: jaysen Subject: MM: Rarities...
