Given the rave reviews of those who attended, I can't wait to hear this. I'm Mike and I am the list-owner of mad-mission@smoe.org. For the time being, an on-list tree of this show is on hold. I'll explain. I wrote Pete yesterday, below is most of what I wrote him. To sum it all up though, since this show is of Patty and the band, and we (the list and some individuals) have a good relationshiip with Patty's management, I don't want to risk that relationship, as they may not want to see an organized distribution of a decent quality tape of Patty and the band, BEFORE the new CD comes out. My letter to Pete below gets into a little more detail. Mike :-) ************ Pete, For now, please hold off on this particular tree until I talk to Mike Baker (Patty's management)? While we CAN do this tree here without permission (we don't need permission), I want to run it by him first, as permission is not the issue, courtesy is (in my opinion) and it's the moral thing to do. I and the list has a good co-operative relationship with Patty and her management. They may not want this tape distributed in an organized manner because it's *with the band*, at least perhaps not until the new CD comes out. I ran into an IDENTICAL situation on the Jewel list I run....not treeing/distributing decent quality stuff with the band until the new CD is out. (One tape WAS treed that was VERY GOOD quality, but that was because it was already out on a bootleg CD and had been broadcast on FM at times, so we treed it with blessing from Jewel's management to counteract the boot CD to some small degree, and to at least get an authorized copy in the hands of some folks at the cost of a few bucks, rather than 25$ or more) I called Patty's management tonight and should get a call within' 24 hours. I'll let you know what's up ASAP. By the way, he did agree when I ran a tree idea by him when I wanted to tree an audience DAT of a show of hers from CT last May, but I've been too busy to put it together. Again, of course we could tree the Troubadour show if we wanted to, but I certainly don't want to burn any bridges we've built with her management. Mike and I go back two years, and I feel I morally want to discuss this with him before you proceed. Mike :-) ********** any feedback, on-list or private is of course welcomed :-) Mike * The Patty Griffin/Mad-Mission@smoe List Homepage is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/pattyg/pattyg.htm * * The Jewel EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * * aka DuckOfPrey@aol.com WhyADuck55 on AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 May 1998 18:17:29 -0400 From: "Mike Gorecki" Subject: MM: Patty I thought this was a Patty Griffin site....need I say more? I noticed that the comments regarding the New York Show were generally negative (mine being what I thought were rather positive) and the LA reviews were, in a word, ecstatic. The set list was essentially the same. I wonder why the split in opinion on the two shows. Are New Yorkers really that tough a crowd??? Or did Patty turn it up a couple of notches out west? On the CD player (or is that now too passe?): Nick Lowe - The Impossible Bird Superdrag - Head Trip in Every Key Allison Krause - So Long, So Wrong (gives PG a run for her money vocally IMO) ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V2 #139 *********************************
