I finally got to hear all of Flaming Red Holy freaking cow!! I have finally gotten my hands on a copy of Flaming Red!! please pardon my shouting but THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST RECORDINGS OF THE DECADE. ehhhemm... now that i got that out of my system allow me to explain.... Radio Radio Radio I hope everyone is prepared for the release of this cd having an impact on Active Rock, A3, Americana, and Hot A/C stations ALL OVER THE US and all over the WORLD. This CD is going to launch her into the national limelight and in my prediction, a grammy nomination and award. Mark my words. So all you FR bashers can eat your words when that day comes. No offense to ye of change- resistant opinions. But in my professional opinion, this cd will be H-U-G-E. I feel like Noah frantically building my ark. There is a storm coming and her name is Patty Griffin and the record is Flaming Red. Watch her fly. Who should she tour with? based on the CD, i say Alanis Morrissette (when Alanis is ready to tour with her newly anticipated record), the Sundays, and now DEFINITELY Jonatha Brooke. Something with a harder edge. Someone who also is releasing a new cd this summer too. Something with a bigger name in Active Rock genre that will encourage and allow her to express the harder edge to the music and in the same efforts, expose her to new and bigger audiences. As it is right now, Active Rock penetrates the music industry sales market at a tremendous rate, and is very popular and profitable. The exposure level she could gain would be very advantageous. I say Alanis Morrissette, that is if Alanis doesnt feel upstaged. ;-) Anyone who doesn't like my opinion can accept my invitation to Kiss my *ss. See you at the grammys!! Good job Michael (you cheesy slimeball you!!) Love ya Patty!! It's up to her. I was strictly giving her the courtesy of not just yelling out a song that I want to hear and her not having worked it out with the band yet. It's called being considerate. Patty can still be Patty. Jeez, people sure like to get cocky on this list. When the Maine-born artist went on tour, opening for the likes of Shawn Colvin, nobody suspected that inside the solo strummer lurked a burning rock & roller. Griffin's raucous band-backed album Flaming Red (which will be released in June) clarifies things entirely. Amid the clamorous guitar pop, Griffin's stripped-down lyrics are still brutally candid: "Bloody pumps/Dead girl/Hey world, thanks a lot," goes her interpretation of the "Red Shoes" fairy tale. The 34-year-old musician is equally forthright in the songs "Mary" and "Wiggly Fingers," which chip away at the Catholic upbringing that haunts her. The Nashville transplant mixes jazzy standards and ballads with Flaming Red's brawnier selections. She also conjures a motley group of tragic figures to inhabit her songs: A suicidal smalltown gay teen, a woman clutching at a fading romance, and a troubled celebrity are some of the despairing characters she exposes with intense honesty. Since Griffin hasn't toured with a group since she led a cover band at 19, this evening will likely be a time of discovery for both the artist and her audience. She has scheduled few live performances outside her Lilith Fair tour dates, so it might be best to catch her in this downtown club setting - - before the songwriter is besieged by 12-year-old-tie-dyed skinnies." There you go for those of you who can't/don't get Time Out... Again, I do have yet another Patty Selections CD for you collector's out there - it's a promo CD that includes these tracks: Moses, Mad Mission, Let Him Fly, Every Little Bit all album versions... It comes in a cardboard sleeve, with a larger version of Living With Ghosts on the front... Let me know if anyone's interested - Cheers Kim Boots Anyone? http://www.angelfire.com/nj/silverkat ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V2 #130 *********************************
