Ah, I wish! I got on the ball at little late, and it was sold out. I would have tried for returns, but after her New York Times write-up assumed that there would be none for the having...missed it, damn damn damn. And I was one of the first to "tag" Patty in New York last year with chat from the Jewel list...hinting to her at the strength of the Net, for fans. This was when she was opening for the Badlees at the Bottom Line. How was it? How *was* it? Instead I saw a friend's play at La Mama, which was fun. But my heart kept tugging. While I'm finally writing here, let me say hi. Like many others I found Patty via Jewelstock. I was enjoying the then-smaller Jewel list when the whole thing was being organized (too much traffic for me now, although I miss it at times) and Jewelstock was a total thrill. I've always been a poor fan, in that I don't obsess--I just like what I like. Jewel was shiny and sharp as a knife at Jewelstock, but Patty was luminous. As a bad fan I didn't have to worry which I liked better, and was happy to love them both. And I've seen her two or three times since (Jewel, alas, I may never see again: stadium shows leave me very cold). So, hi there. Some of you I know from Old Days as an EDA; had to tone down my mailing lists because last year I started an indie record label here in New York City (Home Office Records), and life has been dizzily and uproariously busy since then. Matter of fact, for those of you in New York (if I can briefly drop a plug) we're having a dynamite show tonight, Saturday February 21st, at CB's Gallery, a few blocks away from Fez--we've booked Angry Salad from Boston (good buddies of ours, and a very happening band); Polygraph Lounge, which is a delightful and funny duo augmenting their usual lineup of guitar/keyboard/theremin/squeaky-toys with TWO Daxophones and the bass waterphone; cult guitar guy Jimmy Lee with special guest Vernon Reid (yes, *that* Vernon Reid); Joe Mannix, vocalist of Oral Groove; and subway singer Lorijo Manley, who is a powerhouse from Chicago. Great stuff. Anyone in the area, I hope you'll think about coming down-- with Patty up in Boston, you won't find a better bill tonight in town. At least, that's what we think. (It's tasty music, good voices and good words and good musicianship--we're not into that bangy shrieky thing.) Anyhoo. Didn't mean to overdo. I'm rather the lurker, since there isn't enough time in the day to do more. One other thing; I'd love to get a copy of our last release, the "Burner" compilation, into Patty's hands-- if anyone could get one to her I'd be appreciative. If not I'll wait til her next swing through town. Glad to see that Ann Powers (Times critic) has picked up on her. And I can't wait to hear about how much fun you all had doing it, sheesh.
