I just joined the list and I wanted to say hi to everyone. My name is Tiffany and I live in Baltimore. My girlfriend and I went to see Patty Griffin at the Metro Cafe in DC on Thursday and she was incredible! I'd seen her a couple of times before, but this was definitely the best one. We saw her open for Shawn Colvin last year at the 9:30 Club (which I found out she's playing again on March 23 and 24th.) and then again at the Lilith Fair last summer. Her new stuff sounds great and we really enjoyed seeing her in such an intimate setting. Can't wait to hear her new CD (which she said should be out in the spring) and catch her again in concert soon. I'm also looking forward to being involved in this list and to hear something from all of you soon. I haven't contributed much to this list, so I thought I would include a note about her show last week at the Metro Cafe in DC. In a word she was *phenomenal*! She played a good mix of old and new. She began with "Porch Swing", which I hadn't heard before, but instantly liked! I love reading all the entries on this list, it is so great to see she has so many fans and they are so widespread! I think she is going to be huge! It is also very informative, I learn a lot about other artists that I hadn't heard of, I'm not a true "folk" fan. I plan to check out some of the people I have heard she is doing stuff with, like Ellis Paul, Jules Shear and Paula Cole. I intend to see any and all shows possible! Keep in touch! I may have a place for us to stay. Is there anyone out there who knows if she will be playing anywhere near Florida, like in Atlanta? Also, I may be in Maine this summer, and I was wondering if anybody knows how I can get a summer tour schedule. I simply must see Patty before she makes it big. Also, thanks for the guitar info. Learning "Poor Man's House", and "Sweet "Lorraine", has made my month! If any one out there has tablature for any other songs, it would be well appreciated here in Gainesville, Florida. Her guitar playing is awesome on these songs, because they are not technically difficult, but the strumming patterns are unique. I can only imagine what she is doing on "Every little Bit" and "Time will Do The Talking", Not to mention, "Let Him Fly". So If there are any tips out there... Hello everyone! I'm Akira and thought that I would just give a shout-out to everyone. I've been on the jewel-list for sometime, though staying in the shadows because of lack of time. Anyway I thought I would make myself known. I was just wondering if anyone from the list was going to the NYC Patty show at the Fez? If so, would anyone like to get together before hand and just hang out? I thought it would nice to put some faces with the handles I've been seeing on the list. So If there are any tips out there... >> who has the tab for poor mans house!?? ive looked forever for it? can somebody send it to me?? please? here is the tab for every little bit for whoever is interested..(my version anyway) i basically figured it out by watching her play..basic three chord progression.. standard tuning - no capo first chord G major (330023) then slide up to (660056) then to (880078) i have no clue what those last two chords are but im almost positive that its right..while strumming these three chords i usually ephasize the first two strums on the bass strings (E the A) which would kinda look like this: D U D U D U - ----------------2s6-------------6s8---------8---8-------------------------- - ----------------2s6-------------6s8---------8---8------------------------- - ----------------0----------------0-------------0---0------------------------- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - ----------2------------------5--------------7-------------------------------- - -----3-------------------6--------------8------------------------------------ then on the way back down same chords but backwards...listen to the cd for that part:) make sence? for the chorus... C, D, G, play around with a C hammer-on, C, D, G(extended), C, D, G, C (ring) i recommend listening to the CD for this part then back to the verse, choruse then she goes a lil crazy with the strumming on the verse...gotta love that part.. thats basically it i think! have fun and if you have any questions feel free to email me:) happy playing... kate ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Feb 1998 19:13:47 -0500 From: cmw@pa.net Subject: MM: Jules Shear For those interested, here is a web site with a review of the new Jules Shear CD which was released today: http://www.windham.com/recordings/72902-10352-2.html Patty's name is mentioned, among others, as an artist he has collaborated with on the new disc. They are orchestra left, row M, whatever that might mean. I'm selling them for $16 (face value) each, or $32 for both :-) Reply if interested. kirsten - -- (*)(*) Kirsten Chevalier (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) "Like the rest of the (*)(*) (*) mchevalier@wellesley.edu (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) human race, you are one of (*) http://gryphon.auspice.net/~binkley (*)(*)(*)(*) a kind."--Ani DiFranco (*)(*) (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) Often in error, never in doubt (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V2 #44 ********************************
