I'm so excited this list was started!!! I was introduced to Patty's music when I saw her open for Shawn Colvin in Ventura, CA last year. Even though Shawn gave a MAJOR rip-roaring concert, complete with a visit from James Taylor (the whole concert was amazing), it was PATTY that I couldn't get out of my mind for weeks afterward! I finally went and purchased her CD, and all I can say is: PATTY'S MUSIC AND VOICE FEEDS MY SOUL!!! I just think she's amazing. I love her totally acoustic CD. It's everything: honest, raw and beautiful all at the same time. I can hardly wait for her next CD, due out in May - how will I ever last that long??? LOL!!! Have a great day, everyone - - - Megan in CA =) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Jan 1998 15:25:02 -0500 From: Jerry Zigmont Subject: MM: Griffin Bits Hello Gryphonites: While we are all anxiously awaiting the posting of tour dates (hopefully, very soon), I thought I would pass on a few bits of information. On December 5, 1997, KGSR from Austin, Texas held their seventh annual Birthday Bash. The surprise guest of the evening was non other than Patty! Quoting the American-Statesman newspaper, "Surprise guest PATTY GRIFFIN, for instance, swore she'd soon be moving to Austin, which was easy to believe after seeing her cozying up to apparent new beau TROY CAMPBELL." Every year KGSR puts out a CD featuring live or unreleased performances from a variety of artists who have been featured on the station. Volume 5 this year ( a double CD for a mere $10.71) was no exception and in fact contained Patty's radio released version of "Every Little Bit" with band (see http://nw3.nai.net/~zigmont/clips.html ). Unfortunately, the CD which went on sale after Thanksgiving of this year is sold out. Perhaps a diligent search of internet CD sources might turn up a copy. Happy hunting. I was a demo that had been sent to a local radio station. I bought it because I have this thing for women and guitars.... yeah, I know. I paid two bucks for it and didn't actually play it until a couple of weeks later when I decided to go through my CS's and see what I had. It was amazing. So simple, so beautiful and so intense at the same time. She has an amazing voice both lyrically and sonically. I can't wait for the new CD. Now my real question... Does anyone have a tab for Forgiveness or for Time Will Do The Talking? I've seen the tabs for Moses, Poor Mans'sHouse and Sweet Lorraine via Harmony Central.... but these two songs, I have yet to find. Thanks for any help and also, if you hear of PG playing near the Albany NY area anytime soon.... let me know! Thanks. Keith PS, the other women with guitars that I enjoy include, the indigo girls, ani difranco, dar williams, a couple of local artists - kim buckley-palladino and valerie dela cruz to start...... So it's the music.... they can't help it if they are beautiful, too! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jan 1998 17:19:14 -0400 From: Chris Kornmann Subject: MM: Patty Info Hello all... It's nice to know that their are people out there that can appreciate fine music like Patty Griffin. She truly has a gift. I was lucky enough to meet her about a year ago when I did an interview with her, and then later, I has the pleasure of dining with her after her show in Connecticut. She's as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Word is that Patty will only be doing three or so songs with a full band on the new record. The rest will be acoustic...which to me, is great news. I don't know how many of you heard the full band versions of "Let Him Fly" and "Every Little Bit" but, while they're good, they don't live up to the original versions. If anybody would like these versions, you can send me a blank tape (with a return bubble pack & postage) and I will tape them along with some other filler for your enjoyment. For the record, TABS refers to a way of notating music for guitar and other like stringed instruments. It looks like a music staff, except that it has six lines (one for each guitar string), and instead of notes, there are numbers on the strings representing which frets to play. Cool? Oh yeah, and I would also be very happy with just the chords to the songs I requested. Time will do the Talking and Forgiveness. I know she often plays with a capo, so it is really important to me that if you have the tabs or chort info, that you advise if she uses a capo or alternative tuning. Thanks all! I hope that makes my request clearer! Also, it's great to hear that the new record will have a mix of band productions and acoustic (solo?) stuff. However, I may be one of the few that really like the "produced" versions of Let Him Fly and Every Little Bit better than the solo acoustic. Any thoughts as to why they edited out the extra verses on Every Little Bit?
