Hey folks, I just got off the phone with Mike Baker (Patty's manager) and he gave me a bit of info, including stuff about the VERY soon to be released new CD of Patty's. She started recording on December 27th and will wrap up about the end of this month. It will largely be with a band, with some (but apparently not much) acoustic stuff, depending on the final results and what they all decide on and like. The producer is Jay Joyce, who did some guitar work on the latest Wallflowers CD "Bringing Down The Horse", and the lead guitarist is Davey Leonard, who has recently worked with The Artist Formerly Known As Prince and Dwight Yoakim. (No other band info now, but that is coming later) He said Patty is really pumped about this album, mostly because the first one was really demos and/or (as the A&M Records page says) "unconventionally recorded in a room near Boston City Hospital and in a kitchen in Nashville" and that this one is studio all the way and she's really having a ball and letting loose! :) Projected release date....this May....yeah....May 1998!!! He said A&M (The Prez of A&M) seems to have made a priority on this one to get it out ASAP :) I cannot wait I tell ya! :) We did not discuss what songs she is recording for possible inclusion, but I'll email him asking. Stuff like that is always fun to banter about. OK, tour dates. Rather than doing it over the phone, he's going to email me a scan of the dates (I have no FAX machine here) and I should have them posted real soon. The gigs start on February 12th or 13th, and he said there are about 3 weeks worth of dates. She's hitting at least the New England area, Detroit and Chicago (these are the ones I remember, there's more). That's it for now. Hopefully there will be a show within a 3 hour drive for me :) Mike :) **** The Jewel EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup The Patty Griffin/Mad-Mission@smoe List Homepage is at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/pattyg/pattyg.htm Ducksoup@spectra.net DuckofPrey@aol.com ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V2 #5 *******************************
