The only other time I've seen her >live is at Lilith this summer... Well, I've *never* seen her and I doubt she'll be in Canada any time soon but I won't start on that... ;) I have a question about the list, though. Is there any way to have the "from" field of the posts be the list instead of individual senders? I can't speak for other people but when I scan the email in my "Inbox", I always read my personal mail first and, even though these posts have "MM" in the subject line, they still have a personal sender in the from line. Also, when you hit reply, it only goes to the person who posted, not to the list. I remember the Indigo Girls list being like this and I found it immensely annoying. The Dar Williams list and the Richard Shindell list have the better format of which I speak (where the from field is the list). I was only going to send this to Mike but I'm wondering if other people prefer the latter way, too? If so, is it possible to change this list to that way? Lastly, (while I'm on a roll here ;), I'm trying to collect any and all Patty guitar tabs. Right now I have ones for Moses, You Never Get What You Want, and Poor Man's House so if would like these or has any others to share, please get in touch with me privately. Katie has also gotten word that Patty will be moving to Austin, Thank you Katie for being so kind and sharing this review!! : -) At the Bluebird Cafe On December 16, 1997, Patty graced the small =93stage=94 of the Bluebird Caf=E9 to play a benefit concert for Y-Jams, a program at the YMCA that teaches inner city children music. Also playing in the round that night were Angelo, R.B. Morris, and Kevin Gordon, with appearances by Jennifer Nicely and Herbert Jones. She opened the set with an incredible acoustic version of =93Cain=94, introducing the song =93It=92s just me and the boy= s tonight-guess I should be used to it in the music biz=85this is a song about boys.=94 Her next song was much slower and softer, an unreleased song called =93Go Now=94. Patty then introduced Herbert Jones, a West Virginia songwriter. After a few minutes of collaborating, they sang =93Away in the Manger=94 together. Angelo and Patty had been friends for over ten years, and Patty contributed backup vocals to many of his songs, notably =93You Make It Fly=94, =93Season of the Sun=94, and =93Had= To Be You.=94 Angelo joined Patty in her next song, which she said they wrote for a movie. The song was written from a little girl=92s perspective and contained whimsical musings similar to those of Tori Amos. Although the song, entitled =93Light As A Feather=94, was eventually rejected, Patty seemed to enjoy singing it, bobbing her head and laughing as she sang. Her next song, =93Sweet Lorraine=94 left the audience breathless, while h= er self-described =93ditty=94 (=93I like ditties!=94) =93The Big Round Girl=94= did not fare as well. Patty confessed she stole the title for her next song from her mother=92s poetry. When her family lived in Maine, daylilies nearly consumed their entire yard, Her father went around yanking up the daylilies, because he thought it looked like a poor man=92s house. =93He grew up in Boston. He didn=92t know much about lawn care.=94 She ended th= e set with =93Goodbye=94, receiving enthusiastic thanks from the audience. Wow, thanks to Mike for getting this list off the ground!! For those who don't know me, I'm Tom. I'm from Ephrata, PA, near Harrisburg and the (in)famous Alibob Fraser (also a member of Marky Mark and the Crunchy Bunch). ;-) I've seen Patty a couple times live... once when she opened for the Badlees and once at the Lilith Fair in Scranton, PA. Of course, her cd "Living With Ghosts" is incredible. Anyone going to the Ellis Paul/Patty Griffin show in Boston on 2/21... see ya there!! Take care, and happy 1998 to everyone!! At first glance, I'm sure your suggestion seems like a good idea. However, setting up the list that way creates some problems. First, as for the problem it creates for you (and others I'm sure) in your liking to read personal email to yourself first (that is common....I do it too), I have a possible suggestion/solution. I see you use Windows Eudora Version 1.4.4 for your email program. If you download Eudora Pro 3.0 Light (free, I think..I KNOW earlier than 3.0 versions are free), or buy Eudora Pro 3.0 (the full fledged version) which is now discounted at *30$* (4.0 is coming out), they both have FANTASTIC filtering capabilities that you can use to filter emails directly to you (and a WHOLE lot more filtering). For instance, all emails to ME directly, I filter by coloring them red in my inbox. Filters can copy or transfer emails in certain folders, play sounds etc. Also, if an email comes to ME, (in addition to the red coloring) I have a particular .wav file play, , alerting me. Now, making the reply_to (the same as "from") default to the list and not the sender, (as I said) creates problems. First of all, the way it is now if you hit reply, it goes to the sender, and if you hit reply_all it goes to the sender AND the list. By making reply_to ("from") automatically be the list, it locks out the ability to just reply to the sender, as hitting reply_all (at least on *most* email systems), makes it go to the list twice, and you have to manually type in the address of the sender if you want to reply privately. Right now the Rugburns list has it set up to be "from the list", which is creating problems as WAY, WAY, WAY too many emails that should be *private* are being sent TO the list. (I'm sure that the folks here who also sub to the Rugburns list will agree with that) If I made the change here to be that way, the same thing would happen, and we don't need nor desire what should be private emails being sent to the list, as for certain as this list grows, that problem would develop. (I run the Jewel list too, and with 1600 list members there and I'd sooner slit my wrists than make that list with "from" being the list....too many "private" emails are being sent to that list as it is now, making it a "from' list would multiply that :) To anyone out there with a non-AOL account that can use a commercial Email program, I HIGHLY recommend buying the discounted Eudora Pro 3.0 for 30$, you WON'T be disappointed. (it cost me 90$ last winter and it was worth it to me then....the filtering capabilities alone makes running a list and tape trees a breeze!! :) Mike :) **** The Jewel EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup Patty Griffin Tour Dates & more is at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/pattyg/patttour.htm Ducksoup@spectra.net DuckofPrey@aol.com ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V2 #2 *******************************
