(I know others of our ranks were there and will give their reports, too.) For now, I will just say that Patty and her band gave a lesson in the sublime power of rock at its absolute best. It was a show I'll certainly treasure as one of the very, very best I've ever been at, and I've been at my share of legendary and wonderful shows. What a blessing, what a gift! Patty and the band had colds but they played their hearts out. I think alot of Patty LWG fans weren't to thrilled with the new sound, they felt it was overpowering, but I think that if the sound man was to turn up Patty a little more and get a handle on the band's volume, it will rock. I had a great time because I was familiar with the songs and I was right at the front of the stage so I could see everything. Patty 's cute. A little fireball. The band was excellent. Very talented musicians, especially her lead guitar player. The set consisted of the following: Just her and her acoustic opened with Sweet Lorraine and Poor Man's House. Then the band came out, they played, Goodbye Change Tony (totally rocked!) Christina (it was kinda of hard to hear her vocals on that one) Blue Sky (same problem, soundman needs to work that out) Daddy Go Now Flaming Red (She and the band kicked butt on that one and they really looked like they enjoyed playing it) Wiggly Fingers One Big Love (Great song, definitely a highlight of the evening, she had a huge smile on her face while they played that song) Every Little Bit (I think I still like the original, acoustic only version better) Mary (she said that song was inspired by her grandmother, she looked very moved playing that song) Then they came back for an encore, just her and her lead guitar player. He played acoustic while she sang Let Him Fly. It was nice, she was tired and sick so they didn't play anymore. I did hear a couple of guys though when she walked off the stage after playing let him fly say "now that's the Patty we like". I guess they didn't enjoy the show. Oh well I did. And I know of a few other people that I met from the list last night that enjoyed it too! (HI Adrienne, Vickie, Larry, Josh and Peter. It was nice to meet all of you! I got to talk to her briefly afterwards and got her autograph. She was sweet but I could tell she wasn't feeling very well. Anyways, that was that. It looks like Patty Griffin is well on her way to being a huge success, (although she already is one in my book!). Their were alot of industry people there and someone was filming some serious video so maybe we'll get to see a video when the album comes out. I'm tired but had a great time last night. Of course this is all just my own opinion and you know what they say........:-) Heidi From owner-mad-mission-news@smoe.org Tue May 19 20:13:15 1998 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/listq-jane) id UAA13778 for mad-mission-news-outgoing; Tue, 19 May 1998 20:10:15 -0400 (EDT) Message-Id: <199805200010.UAA13778@smoe.org> Date: Tue, 19 May 1998 19:33:37 -0400 (EDT) From: "Stephen V. You've raised over $3500 at this point, and I really appreciate your support!!! Earlier this week I ordered the new hardware for smoe.org, which cost $4600 (drop me a note if you're interested in the technical specs on the new gear). It arrived today, and I'm taking a few days off work to get it set up and in production. At some point between Saturday and Tuesday, smoe.org will be shut down to install the new hardware. The downtime will probably be 4-6 hours. During the time we're off-line, mail will be queued up at my ISP so no mail will be lost. I'll send out another announcement once the new gear is online. Thanks again for your help! -Jeff P.S. If you've been meaning to send in a check, Mike Connell is still accepting donations. Contact him at ducksoup@spectra.net for more info. (and deadline for the doorprizes) Sender: owner-mad-mission-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hi folks :-) Just wanted to again say thanx to all those that contributed to the fund raiser for the new smoe.org hardware :-) As Jeff Wasilko posted yesterday, over $3500 thus far has been sent in and he is installing a new $4600 system this weekend. Also, as he said I am still accepting donations towards this cause, as we did fall about a grand short of the final cost (not to mention Jeff pays the $150+ a month operating costs....so I myself wouldn't mind seeing us foot the whole bill for the hardware :-) Also, also - I'd like to announce that the deadline for me to receive donations where you would be eligible for one of the door prizes is next weekend, as I am going to randomly pick the winners next Sunday May 31st, meaning donations I receive in the mail by next Saturday the 30th will be eligible. No matter if you donated one dollar or two-hundred fifty dollars, you have an equal chance for any of the prizes. (All of the door prizes are Jewel related) In addition to a bunch of Jewel key chains & Jewel pins, I have the seven Jewel autographed items listed below (at the end of this email). These items were autographed by Jewel herself, not some stamp, not another person, not some machine. (People have been asking me if her presigned poetry books that are available at various Virgin Megastore bookstores around the USA were actually signed by her....that I cannot answer, as I don't have an answer) I might add that the odds of winning one of these autographed items isn't too bad, since as of this moment there's only been 145 donations sent in. So the odds right now are just a tad over 20-1. To donate, send cash, check or money order. PLEASE make out any checks or money orders to Jeff Wasilko. Send donations to: Mike Connell PO Box 1206 Binghamton NY 13902-1206 This is the last time I'll be ringing that bell :-) Again, I wish to thank all of you who have donated already, all who may soon do so, and all of you who belong to any smoe.org mailing list, as it is the people and their love of the artists' music that make these lists special :-) To see what artists mailing lists exist for on smoe.org, check out http://www.smoe.org/lists cybernetly yours, Mike :-) P.S. If you are new to any of these lists and want more info on this fund raiser, just email me privately and I'll send you copies of my previous posts, and/or answer any questions you may have. *************************************************************************** THE DOOR PRIZES THE DOOR PRIZES THE DOOR PRIZES *************************************************************************** (In addition to a bunch of Jewel key chains and pins) The seven autographed items are (each individually awarded) a) Two twenty page, full of pictures, full color Jewel lyric books autographed in gold ink on the front cover. These are the same books that were being sold at last summers' Lilith Fair and Jewel's 1997 Fall Tour. b) Two sets of five 5x7 semi-glossy color photo packs, with the first picture autographed in gold ink. The pictures and lyric book can be viewed here: http://www.jeweljk.com/catalog1164/catalog.htm c) TWO of Jewel's ten times platinum Pieces Of You CD, with the insert autographed in gold ink. d) This is the top prize, especially to the collectors out there! A brand spanking new autographed in gold ink, RARE promotional CD, commonly known as "Phyllis Barnaby Finally Gets A Bra". It's a 4 track "You Were Meant For Me" promo CD that is pretty much impossible to find now a days. In fact, I myself consider it harder to find than her other promo CD "Save The Linoleum". The 4 tracks are an unreleased version of You Were Meant For Me (known as the Juan Patino version), and three other unreleased tracks Cold Song, Rocker Girl and Emily (although all three have subsequently been released on the vinyl version of Pieces Of You) * The Patty Griffin/Mad-Mission@smoe List Homepage is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/pattyg/pattyg.htm * * The Jewel EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * * aka DuckOfPrey@aol.com WhyADuck55 on AOL Instant Messenger From owner-mad-mission-news@smoe.org Thu May 28 07:03:31 1998 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/listq-jane) id HAA17826 for mad-mission-news-outgoing; Thu, 28 May 1998 07:02:43 -0400 (EDT) Message-Id: <199805281102.HAA17826@smoe.org> Date: Thu, 28 May 1998 06:52:39 -0400 To: mad-mission@smoe.org From: Mike Connell Subject: PattyG-News: Re: MM: Some News Sender: owner-mad-mission-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Gerry wrote: >Old news but there's an official Patty Griffin site at >http://www.pattygrfiffin.com/ >which, I think, will be completely unvailed around the release of the >album. Old news, yes, but based on info that I admit is also old, it's NOT the official Patty Griffin site. When I first stumbled upon this site last year , I called Mike Baker (Patty's manager) about it and he knew nothing about it. He looked into it and it turns out he actually knows the person who's behind that site, but he told me it's *not* official and "....won't be". He mentioned at the time that "it's too early for Patty to have an official web site, perhaps way in the future....". Of course, the future may be quite soon if ya ask me, as I feel Flaming Red will fuel the 'need' for an official site.....(he actually approached me to make my site her offiical site on a short term basis until they did see fit to start an official site, but I declined due to lack of expertise and fear of it becoming to much for me as I have enough to do running various mailing lists. He and I agreed it would be best to just use my site as a minor base (and this list) and along with Jerry Zigmont's wonderful Flaming Red site, and now Rachel Martin's useful lyric site, Patty has a solid albeit small web page presence) Also, I'd like to mention that based on the last I heard from Mike (I haven't talked to him about this site since then), that the email list sign up at that site also is NOT official nor sanctioned by Patty or her management. As a matter of fact, it was because of that site and that "emailing list signup" that THIS mailing list was born. (even though I had been toying with the idea for a while then) He and I discussed the idea for a Patty mailing list and I had it up and running soon thereafter, but didn't announce it to the world until January 1st of this year. Of course, I'll again admit that Mike and I haven't discussed this particular site since then (it's certainly too early in the morning to call him right now :-), and that I may just end up with egg on my face eventually, as for all I know plans/feelings may have changed concerning http://www.pattygriffin.com, but he seemed quite adamant last year that it would not be the official site and it was all done without his or Patty's consent/involvemet. "And just last night, I was summarily blown away by A&M recording artist Patty Griffin. She claimed she was a bit under the weather, but I find it hard to imagine her voice or her energy could be any better than it was during her Troubadour performance. The diversity of songs, her absolutely amazing voice and her great band made it very clear why this artist's time has come." ~ John Schoenberger ---- Here are the charts that Schoenberger writes of: Combined Album Airplay: #24 (574 plays) Commercial Song Airplay: #26 (347 plays) Non-Commercial Album Airplay: #10 (208 plays) Most Progress: #1 I also forgot to note in my last writing that there was a film crew shooting segments of Patty's Troubadour show. Later on that night she did an interview with them so, I assume, it was for television... maybe HBO's "Reverb" -- although those are primarily shot on the East Coast. Old news but there's an official Patty Griffin site at http://www.pattygrfiffin.com/ which, I think, will be completely unvailed around the release of the album. While no dates are solid yet (he does hope to have some dates by the end of this coming week) he did mention two distinct tours that Patty and the band will embark on starting in July. >From July 9th through the 30th, Patty and the guys will be opening for the group Sister Hazel. She won't be at ALL of the Sister Hazel dates, but most of them. >From July 31st and on (not sure how long), Patty and the guys will be opening for Edwin McCain. Same deal....not ALL of the Edwin dates, but most of them. She WILL be doing a few headlining gigs during these two tours (in between dates with Sis Hazel and Edwin), at smaller venues of course. Info on those gigs will be posted as soon as they become available. As of now, there are still only these three previously announced Lilith Fair gigs: 8/23 - Denver CO - Fiddlers Green Amphitheater - on sale now 8/25 - Salt Lake City UT - Wolf Mountain - on sale now 8/26 - Boise ID - The Idaho Center - on sale now Michael said that he doesn't think there will be additional Lilith dates....that it's totally up to the Lilith people ("if they call") Also, he said he read most of the mad-mish list mail dealing with reviews of the shows on the last tour with the band, and he's hoping (but not promising) to send some comments on various things regarding the completed tour, including his thoughts and comments on stuff that was posted about the shows. One last thing....regarding a tape tree of the Troubadour show, or of any show of Patty _with the band_. He would prefer we didn't do so just yet, at least until a couple of months or more after the new CD is out.
