According to various Dixie Chicks message boards I have been keeping an eye out on, their summer tour dates are to be announced today. There's a small article about it (which mentions Patty twice) on the front page of the Weekend section of today's USA Today. (The Chicks really talk-up Patty!) It also mentions some of the dates on the 5 month, 70 date tour which hits 38 states and Canada. Please note however, Willie Nelson and Ricky Scaggs are also opening some of the dates, so it appears that Patty will not be at ALL of the dates, but I am not 100% sure. Due to computer problems, I do not have access to my home email account right now (ducksoup@quackquack.net), and may not for another week or two....hopefully I can get a loaner computer or rent one. Patty's management may or may not be sending me some/all of Pattys' dates on this tour, but since I don't have access to the other account, I won't know. (If you are reading this, and are going to send me the dates, PLEASE CC the email to my AOL account at duckofprey@aol.com). Basically, the point of all of this is that since the Dixie Chicks' tour dates are to be announced today, please don't assume that Patty will be opening at any specific show. We won't know for sure which shows Patty will be at until they are either listed on the A&M Records site, a site like Pollstar or until Patty's management/band either sends me dates or posts them on the list themselves. Mike :-) http://www.usatoday.com/life/enter/music/lemindex.htm Dixie Chicks' eye-opening acts By Brian Mansfield, USA TODAY How do you make sure concertgoers arrive before your show if you're the Dixie Chicks? First, give away front-row ticket upgrades during the half-hour before the concert starts. Second, book Willie Nelson as your opening act. Nelson, Ricky Skaggs and rock singer/songwriter Patty Griffin each will open dates on the Grammy-winning country trio's First Headlining Tour, which opens June 1 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, before heading to the USA with dates in Spokane and Tacoma, Wash., June 9 and 10. "We joke that we really shouldn't have openers open up for us that are better than us," says Natalie Maines, the trio's lead singer. "We hand-picked the music we want before us, and we're really proud of it. Patty Griffin totally blows us away, and we want people to be there to experience that." "We're trying not to have that cold-start, lights-on feeling when you walk in," says guitarist and banjo player Emily Robison. "We really want it to have some life from the very beginning." The trio hired Cirque du Soleil designer Luc Lafortune to create the set for the five-month, 70-date tour. It will travel to 38 states, with scheduled stops including San Diego, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, Chicago and Milwaukee. ********************* NOTE FROM LIST MANAGEMENT: Please realize this concert date and/or venure posted has not been confirmed by Jewel's management via her official website at http://www.jeweljk.com This is NOT to say this event will not happen, it is just that we want you to realize that it just has not been confirmed as of yet. The text of the release is below the dates. (I don't know if it mentions Patty, as I have not read it yet....I hope there's no curse words in it ;-) I do not know if there is any chance at all if Patty might fill any of the dates below where the support/opener is listed as TBA. Time will tell. The formatting for the dates won't be the best possible, but it's the best I can do in the short time frame I have right now, as I have to rush off back to work. (the same formatting scenario goes for the text below the dates, which I spent NO time on fixing, other than using the "remove formatting" button on my email program). If any of you have Microsoft Word and want a copy of the press release (has a nice table for the dates section), just email me and I'll send you a copy. If you lose this email, the dates will always be on my web site at http://www.quackquack.net/pattyg Also, I sent individual emails of this post to all the digest subscribers (hope none of you digest subscribers mind), however one of the drawbacks being that people on the regular version of the list, or anyone on more than one version, will thus receive multiple copies of it. (April 14, 2000) -- "The Dixie Chicks Fly Tour" will visit 70 cities this summer and fall. The highly anticipated indoor arena tour, sponsored by MusicCountry.com, kicks off in Winnipeg on June 1 and after four additional Canadian dates moves into the U.S. beginning with Spokane, WA on June 9. For the next five months, the Sony Music recording artists will make their way through 38 states with a show, the chicks promise, will "entertain fans from the minute they arrive at the venue." In addition to their own high-energy show, each concert will feature one special guest performer handpicked by the Dixie Chicks, ranging from fellow Texas renegade Willie Nelson, to the grit and rockin' power of Patty Griffin, to the pure bluegrass sounds of Ricky Skaggs. "We want to expose our fans to different kinds of music and we wanted our tour to represent us and what we like," says lead singer Natalie Maines. "The live element is so important to us and our support acts are all ones we would want to be entertained by each night." Though they are keeping mum about the specifics, the Dixie Chicks have several things up their oh-so-fashionable sleeves. "From the moment you walk in the door, there will be things happening," promises Maines with a grin. They advise concert-goers to be in their seats 30 minutes before the show starts in order to win instant seat upgrades and enjoy other surprises. "Pee before you get there, because you won't want to leave your seats between acts," says Maines. Emily Robison adds, "We really wanted to make this tour something special. The whole night will be an event." To help implement their vision for the show, the Dixie Chicks hired set designer Luc Lafortune, one of the designers of the visually stunning Cirque de Soleil. "The visuals really help set a mood for each song," says Martie Seidel. "We want it to be eye-catching, but not your standard rock and roll light show." The Dixie Chicks and their management are taking numerous measures to deter ticket scalping and to insure fans the best access possible to the best seats for each concert. As part of that effort, there will be a four ticket per person limit on the first ten rows on the floor, and an eight ticket limit per person for all other seating in the arena. Ticket prices are all under $40 dollars (plus applicable service charges) and will be available through TicketMaster or local outlets. The World Wildlife Fund has been chosen by the Dixie Chicks to be the charitable beneficiary of the tour. One dollar from the sale of each ticket will go to the organization that has led international efforts to protect endangered species and habitats for the last 40 years. "We all hope to be mothers some day, but it's sad to think that our children might be born into a world that no longer has wild animals running free," says Seidel. "If we can help World Wildlife Fund protect endangered species and the world's "Wide Open Spaces," then we may be able to leave our children a living planet." As the title sponsor of the 70-date "Dixie Chicks Fly Tour," MusicCountry.com will be your best source for concert and ticket information. Visitors to MusicCountry.com's "The Dixie Chicks Fly Tour" website can sign up to receive an email notification 24 hours prior to the ticket sale announcement in the city of their choice. The website will also give users a unique, behind-the-scenes look at the traveling production, from exclusive, never-before-seen footage of the tour's promotional television commercials to an ongoing "tour diary," with fun updates from the road. CMT: Country Music Television, the tour's media sponsor, will telecast special programming related to the tour and have one of CMT's 53-foot promotional vehicles and crew accompany the concert tour from coast to coast. CMT viewers will be able to enter a national sweepstakes for a chance to meet the Dixie Chicks at one of the concerts. While they take their commitments and their music seriously, anyone who has ever been around the Dixie Chicks know they don't always take themselves too seriously, as evidenced in the tour's funny and unique advertising campaign. The tour commercials and print ads highlight the band's "rookie" status on "Their First Headline Tour." In various television spots, they're seen practicing banjo-smashing, trashing hotel rooms, pumping gas in their own limo, mistaking a bidet in a fancy hotel bathroom for a water fountain, running a "Chinese fire drill" in a limo at a stoplight, and strolling through a hotel lobby like supermodels. Radio commercials for the tour include behind-the-scenes commentary from limo drivers, caterers and the like. In 1998-1999, the Dixie Chicks played over 250 dates on three major tours, crossing North America as well as the UK and Australia. As the hottest country group in America, with multi-platinum status, armfuls of Grammy, Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music Awards, many wondered why the group chose to wait until now to headline. "We wanted to continue to build our fan base by performing in front of three diverse audiences like the Tim McGraw, George Strait and Lilith Fair tours," says Maines. "We watched how those folks put on concerts--and we stole their best ideas," laughs Seidel. "We learned that men can't do catering." __________________________ - * The Patty Griffin/Mad-Mission@smoe List Homepage is at: * http://www.quackquack.net/pattyg * * Rachel Martin's Patty Griffin Lyrics Archive is at * http://www.geocities.com/Wellesley/3079/patty.html * * Jerry Zigmont's Flaming Red - A Patty Griffin Website is at * http://members.tripod.com/PattyGriffin * * Katie Peterson's Patty Griffin Guitar Tabs Archive is at * http://members.tripod.com/~Lifey/patty.html * * DuckOfPrey or WhyADuck55 on AOL and/or AOL Instant Messenger From owner-mad-mission-news@smoe.org Sat Apr 15 22:20:45 2000 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/listq-jane) id WAA22108 for mad-mission-news-outgoing; Sat, 15 Apr 2000 22:19:28 -0400 (EDT) Message-Id: <200004160219.WAA22108@smoe.org> From: "Taylor, Brad" To: mad-mission@smoe.org Subject: PattyG-News: Dixie Chics-Patty Griffin Tour Links Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2000 15:27:38 -0500 Sender: owner-mad-mission-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Thought I would post this news for all of your enjoyment..... You can check them out here: http://www-personal.engin.umich.edu/~jcaputo/Patty.html I was thinking about fixing up this page and making it into a Patty photo archive. So if anyone has ANY pictures from live performances please email them to me. If you took the pictures than let me know, or if you know who took the pictures so I can give proper credit. Also include date and venue info if you know it. If you don't have a scanner but have the pictures then you can snail mail them to me and I will scan them in and send them back to you - or if you have doubles than we could work out a trade so i could keep them. Anyway, please let me know. I was thinking this could be a good way to do the setlist info too, so if you have the setlist to the show that you have the pictures for then include them and we will put the setlist info up there too! Kind of a Patty concert page! Thanks for reading and I hope to get some feedback :-) Jen http://www-personal.engin.umich.edu/~jcaputo From owner-mad-mission-news@smoe.org Sat Apr 29 17:16:48 2000 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/listq-jane) id RAA05065 for mad-mission-news-outgoing; Sat, 29 Apr 2000 17:16:07 -0400 (EDT) Message-Id: <200004292116.RAA05065@smoe.org> From: "Jennifer Lynn Caputo" To: "Mad-mission@smoe. org" Subject: PattyG-News: Austin City Limits Detroit Date: Sat, 29 Apr 2000 11:10:57 -0400 Sender: owner-mad-mission-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Ausitn City Limits with Dave matthews, Emmylou Harris, patty Griffin and Julie and Buddy Miller is airing on May 5 @ 5am in the Detroit Area (Channel 6).
