(maybe some old news too...not sure) First of all, you know how Patty's "Blue Sky" is being featured on Moxie Girl commercials? Well, their website ( www.mxgonline.com ) is going to have a contest to give away a guitar with the same promotion that is using "Blue Sky". I checked out the web site, and while there is a clickable near the top about Patty, I can't find any mention of the give away, so I guess it has not started yet. Hopefully someone will post when it does start. (the text about Patty from that site is below, after all the news) Next, it seems Patty is just about done recording the new CD in New Orleans. "it sounds amazing" says her management. Well duh! This is Patty we are talking about! Like they would ever say "it sounds like hell" or "it sounds so-so". Know what I mean? But I'm sure it DOES sound amazing and cannot wait. However....we'll have to wait. They are shooting for a release sometime in the fall. (Drats! I wanted it this summer!) Also, they may have some shows where Patty will be opening for a major tour that will run from June into August. They might be able to confirm this in a couple of weeks. I was not told who the act is Patty would be opening for, nor if she'd be solo or with the band, nor when dates might be announced. I do believe this is next bit of info is old news to some degree, but since I have not been able to keep up with the list recently, plus the fact that I can't remember squat lately, I don't know if this has been posted or not, or even if I myself may have posted it or not. (I'll get better, just working too hard). Anyway, the last bit is that Patty taped Austin City Limits with EmmyLou Harris, Buddy and Julie Miller and Dave Mathews. No air date has been set yet as far as they know. (was this old news????? :-) Well, that's it. Hopefully we'll get news about this tour and dates soon. Mike :-) Text about Patty from www.mxgonline.com : When the MXG crew informed me that I needed to select the song for our national ad campaign, I thought "sure, no pressure." In all honesty, I was flipping out. I started to go through hundreds of CDs. Wait, make that thousands of CDs. I wanted to make sure we had the perfect song and the perfect artist for our commercial. I was starting to get frustrated as my relentless search continued. Then I found Patty Griffin's album Flaming Red and I knew my search was over. The only problem was every song was phat and I just couldn't decide on one, at first. After repeated listening, I just couldn't resist Patty's song "Blue Sky." The mix of edgy rock and light vocals is the perfect fit for MXG. I hope you dig the song and love the commercial. The process wasn't the easiest, but when we found Patty, I knew we were on to something special. * The Patty Griffin/Mad-Mission@smoe List Homepage is at: * http://www.quackquack.net/pattyg * * Rachel Martin's Patty Griffin Lyrics Archive is at * http://www.geocities.com/Wellesley/3079/patty.html * * Jerry Zigmont's Flaming Red - A Patty Griffin Website is at * http://members.tripod.com/PattyGriffin * * Katie Peterson's Patty Griffin Guitar Tabs Archive is at * http://members.tripod.com/~Lifey/patty.html * * DuckOfPrey or WhyADuck55 on AOL and/or AOL Instant Messenger From owner-mad-mission-news@smoe.org Sun Mar 5 21:01:40 2000 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/listq-jane) id VAA06722 for mad-mission-news-outgoing; Sun, 5 Mar 2000 21:01:20 -0500 (EST) Message-Id: <200003060201.VAA06722@smoe.org> Date: Fri, 3 Mar 2000 16:15:14 EST From: UMCaner74@aol.com To: Mad-Mission@smoe.org Subject: PattyG-News: Fellow MM'er on FRONT Page of Music Magazine! It is an hour long show and Patty is on the last half of the show (I think she starts at about the 28 minute mark if I recal correctly). This show airs on PBS in the United States (the Public Broadcasting System). Please beware that not all PBS stations will be showing the repeat that very weekend. Some stations wil likely be showing it the next or even two weekends after. The safest way to be sure is to call your local PBS station. You can find information (including a television schedule) about your local station on the web at www.pbs.org and then click on the "station finder". The Sessions web site STILL does not list their page for Patty in the artist index, but you can find it at: http://www.sessionsatwest54th.com/artists/griffin03 On that site you will find a bunch of info about this episode, PLUS a lot of extras like Windows Wallpaper of Patty, some performance and interview Real Audio and Real Video, a photo gallery, a WinAmp skin and a transcript of John Hiatts' interview with Patty. As for the three postponed shows, I was told "they were to be solo shows, and I'm sure that we'll be back sometime in the future" About last nights' cancelled USC gig, Patty just came down with something and could not do the show. Nothing serious, just one of those things. They hope folks weren't too inconvenienced by the last minute cancellation. ....and for the good news....as the subject says, Patty and the band will be opening for the Dixie Chicks this summer! No dates yet, but In the next few days Pattys' management "will be announcing 30-40 band dates". I am not sure if they will be opening for EVERY show on the Chicks tour....guess we'll find out soon enough. I guess the biggest question here is, who gets to sing "Let Him Fly"? My guess is it will be the Chicks, with special guest vocalist Patty Griffin :-) Mike :-) - * The Patty Griffin/Mad-Mission@smoe List Homepage is at: * http://www.quackquack.net/pattyg * * Rachel Martin's Patty Griffin Lyrics Archive is at * http://www.geocities.com/Wellesley/3079/patty.html * * Jerry Zigmont's Flaming Red - A Patty Griffin Website is at * http://members.tripod.com/PattyGriffin * * Katie Peterson's Patty Griffin Guitar Tabs Archive is at * http://members.tripod.com/~Lifey/patty.html * * DuckOfPrey or WhyADuck55 on AOL and/or AOL Instant Messenger
