I saw Lucy a little over a week ago at Ashland Coffee and Tea near Richmond, VA. She was in fine voice and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying herself on stage. She's still telling stories about her daughter, but they're different now, less about cuteness and more about the humor in everyday life. She also waxed a bit nostalgic at times. During the introduction to Downtown Train she mentioned she was first scheduled to play Ashland on 9/12/01, a show that had to be postponed because she couldn't get out of NY due to the previous day's events. She is indeed playing a few new songs for a CD she said should be released in September. She explained that it was recorded live in the studio and features many of the musicians she's worked with in the past, including Duke Levine, Jon Herrington, and Ben Wittman. She also reported the sad news of her mother's passing, something I was previously unaware of. I expressed my sympathies to her during the post-show meet and greet. I purchased the father/daughter CD at last year's Falcon Ridge Festival. It's worth the price just to hear the spontaneous banter between them on stage.
