As I have posted in the past, Eric Lowen of Lowen and Navarro, is suffering from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He has continued to perform from his wheel chair for longer than anybody imagined, but now he is no longer able to sing. It has been remarkable and inspirational to experience the way he has handled his disease. But, he is no longer able to perform or record. Several artists, including the likes of Jackson Browne and The Bangles, have created an album of L&N music. Proceeds go to ALS research, the local ALS foundation to help others with medical equipment and care, as well as to Eric to help him pay for his care. You can buy CDs or MP3s. Please consider purchasing this music to help out. http://www.keepthelightalive.org/buy_keepthelightalive.html If you simply cannot afford to contribute by buying music, and even if you do purchase music, you can further help by clicking on videos at the www.whatkindofworlddoyouwant.com Click on "videos" and then "augiesquest." The videos related specifically to Eric are "If I Was the Rain" - a tape of his very last performance, "Learning to Fall" a joyous effort by people affected in one way or another by this disease singing a song that Eric wrote about his illness and "Eric Lowen" a tape made by the MDA about Eric and his plight fairly early on in his illness. Each time you click on the video and run it, $1 is donated to the cause. There is no limit to the amount of times you can donate in one day. I often run it in the background with the sound off. I just click on it periodically and go about my work. If we all just did this once daily, every day, it would be significant. There couldn't be an easier way to give. ALS is one of the cruelest of diseases and many of us will be affected in one way or another in our lifetimes. I hope that all you music lovers will find it in your hearts to participate in helping to find a cure and helping Eric, a most wonderful member of our musical community, to proceed with the dignity, grace and love he has shown thus far. Happy New Year to all.
