Folk music is a political beast at its core. Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez , John Prine, Bob Dylan, Neil Young & Steve Earle are examples of those musicians who use/used their talents to illuminate issues and sparked movements to advance the cause of peace. Steve Earle said of the "Shut up and sing" nonsense that he thought political commentary was his effin JOB... It seems interesting to me that the people who don't want to hear performers' political views have elected and endorsed many actors - Ronald Reagan, Sonny Bono, Fred Thompson, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
