Hi everyone, Last's night show was fantastic with Duke Levine on guitar. It was a pretty emotional show with Lucy getting choked up several times. The set list was Set 1 This Morning I Am Born Again (Guthrie song put to music by Slaid Cleaves) End of the Day Over the Hills (written for Molly) Ten Year Night Somewhere Out There Manhattan Moon (story about how before the album was complete she was so tired of The Red Thread that she slipped in the unfinished new cd during a 10 hr car ride to Maine and how Molly started crying and said "I don't like it, it annoys me" until Lucy told her this song was about her. She loves "my song" now and Lucy is already tired of this album.) Amelia (first verse a composite of her mom, grandmother and fictional character; second verse Molly) Quitting Time on piano (Roches - song was a huge influence on her when she was 18) Swimming Song The Gift Set 2 Speaking with the Angel Don't Mind Me Scorpion The Tide (Yay!) Ring of Fire This Is Home (dedicated to couple in the audience waiting for their referral - - very emotional) Song For Molly Just You Tonight on piano By Way of Sorrow The Red Thread Encore: I've Just Seen a Face Today's the Day (with a story about how her brother found a copy of the book mentioned in the song her dad sang her when she was little for Molly's 4th Bday and how Molly refers to it as "Mommy reads book, Mommy cries" - very emotional) After the show we hung back waiting for most people to clear out and then after hellos and hugs I turned the card around which had our typical "We Love You Lucy" on the front. I told her something like .. "It's become tradition to do something in honor of your new albums and while we didn't think we could outdo the last one (she interjected a "no, i don't think you could") we decided to give it a try anyways (insert her jaw dropping and a "what? Oh i wasn't expecting this"). We made a donation in the amount of $1365 to the Irving Kaplansky Memorial Fellowship and also have had a brick with your name put in the gardens at MSRI." At this point she had to sit down and was getting very emotional and someone near her said "i'm guessing you didn't know anything about this" and she shook her head no while tearing up. She said she didn't even know they had a fellowship in his name and how incredibly happy he would have been about this. She asked how we even knew about it and when I said "well I emailed David Eisenbud to see if they were planning anything" and she said with an incredulous look on her face "you just contacted the director of MSRI?!" She read through the card and then looked up and said "you outdid it again." She asked some questions about the brick and the garden and said she didn't even know her parents had a brick there (I had included a picture that the director of MSRI had sent of the area of the wall where her parents brick was) and said she would be in Berkeley in September and would go to see the wall and wanted to know if her brick would be up by then. She said she didn't know what to say and just kept saying "thank you, thank you" over and over again. Gerry took pictures of the presentation so when he sends them to me I'll put them up somewhere for everyone to see. All in all it was most definitely successful!! - -Kristen _________________________________________________________________ The average US Credit Score is 675. Kristen, It sounds like a wonderful success and you are the soul of this. Thank you so much for your efforts and thoughtfulness on all accounts. I'm sure most of use want to feel that we matter in the work we choose. Certainly Lucy must feel that way, especially considering her first occupation as a Psychologist. I think that these gestures bring it all around to her that she does touch us. So thank you again for everything and thank you to all the generous donors.
