She was on another station, WNKU on February 23rd. You can download the podcast (mp3) at: http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/wnku/ondemand.ondemandmain?action=viewPodcast&podcastId=218 . It's about half way down the page. There was a short interview and Lucy performed "The Gift". I'm sure these 2 are old news, but... It mentions on Lucy's site that she was on WFUV (March 4th the actual date?). You can find the show easily by using the archive search box at the top of the WFUV home page: http://www.wfuv.org/index2.html . Lucy performed "Manhattan Moon", "The Gift" and "Today's The Day". There is also a full concert from 2001 still archived on WFUV. and... On Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) The Current, they have a March 26th, 2005 in-studio appearance that is still archived. http://minnesota.publicradio.org/radio/services/the_current/features/2005/instudio_2005.shtml . (Scroll way down the page) Lucy performed "I Had Something" and "This Is Home". Sadly (for me anyway), I don't have XM Radio The Village, so I didn't get to hear her recent performance there. I bet it was a good one! *** There was a post several days ago on a Patty Griffin mailing list about the sales of her recent cd, "Children Running Through" (a wonderful cd) and in reference to how hard it is to sell cds, the poster said: If you want an idea of how hard it is to sell records these days, take at look at Lucy Kaplansky, been around for a long time, is a good singer/songwriter and she puts out a new cd, so far 3,313 after a week selling 778 copies. That's so sad. I wish there was some way to communicate to the world how wonderful Lucy is. I've promoted her to friends and family (bought them cds) and discussed her on other musicians' message boards. What more can we do? Many artists make more money from touring than cd sales, and obviously (because of her family) Lucy is not going to tour to the extent she used to. Jennifer Kimball had a new cd last year; I'm pretty sure her sales were slim as well. I'm on her mailing list and she recently sent out an email. After announcing a show she was doing with a couple of other singer/songwriters, she mentioned that she was taking classes at Harvard in landscape design. She's worked part time as a gardener for the last few years because she's "...discovered that performing original music here and there around town simply doesn't pay the bills"(she wasn't whining about it). She said: "And who knows where it will lead. Certainly to more knowledge. Hopefully to interesting work in landscape design/ecology/maintenance - private and public." She said that touring might happen again, but not in the forseeable future and that if anyone wanted to drop off the list, she would totally understand Though she didn't come out and say it, it almost seemed like a retirement (from music) notice to me. With things the way they are, I just wonder how long artists like Lucy and Jennifer will be around, performing and making albums. For me, it will be a great loss when I no longer can look forward to hearing new music from them. - --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell?
