I've been so busy and my schedule always seems that I'm out of town whenever she's here so I hadn't seen Lucy in almost a year (yes me...almost a year!!). It's a small room at the University of Hartford where part of the nights ticket sales go to a local charity. Lucy has played there for the last 5 years and it's usually sold-out though this time it wasn't and I was able to get a last minute ticket after my trip for the weekend fell through (I think the holiday weekend didn't help because it seemed driving on the highway that half of the east coast is going on vacation and using 84 to get there!) I didn't have a pen so I don't have the exact setlist. She sang the following though not in this order (though it is in chronological order...it's the only way I could remember everything she played was to go through the cds in my head just now!). I LOVE the new songs and judging from what she said is on the cd this may be up there with the Tide and Flesh and Bone for me as favorites :) The Heart What's So Funny ('Bout Peace, Love, and Understanding) (Because of all the crap going on nowadays) If You Could See By Way of Sorrow Ten Year Night Promise Me End of the Day (because it was written at a rest stop on 84 between Hartford and Boston (which was probably the rest stop right before my exit since it's the only one!) Don't Mind Me Brooklyn Train The Red Thread This Is Home I Had Something I Walk the Line (2 verses of it at least...all she could remember, used to sing this when she played in a Country Western band (in the basement of Macys or something if I recall the newspaper ad correctly!)) More Than This (recorded for new cd with Jonatha Brook on harmony) Ring of Fire (recorded for new cd) The Swimming Song (recorded for new cd!!!!!! she had recorded it for The Tide but didn't like the way it came out and was debating putting it on the new cd but then while debating this ran into Loudan Wainwright on a plane and walking down the street heard a car blasting his version of it and decided that they were signs and she had to do it and she said it came it great) Over the Hill (new one on new cd) Manhattan Moon (old-new one on new cd) Amelia (new one on new cd) The Gift (new one on new cd) Another new one written half on the plane ride to say goodbye to her dad the week before he died and finished the day before he died, this was the only encore and she struggled through it...don't know what the name is...the chorus does repeat "Out Beyond" in the lines. - -K ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V8 #39 ****************************** This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
