I discovered a singer songwriter last winter in a bar down n Memphis. The second time I saw him down there, he gave me a copy of his CD "Too Much Love" so that I could try to get it airplay up here in Minneapolis. Everyone I have shared his music with has liked it a great deal. One said that many of his songs were kinda sad. (This shouldn't bother us, should it....remember a band called Cry Cry Cry?) Another very talented, very entertaining MALE singer songwriter I saw recently (at the Winnipeg Folk Festival) was Hawksley Workman (Ontario). Sorta proving the point, I made at least twice as many discoveries of female talent up there than male. The local Wailin' Jennies of course, but also Mia Dyson from Australia, the veteran trio Fruit also from Australia and Ruthi Foster (no stranger to readers of this list, but a big discovery to most of the folks at Winnipeg this year). Richard Thompson solo acoustic rocked the festival mainstage. Hmmm...Thats 4 to 3....I don't dispute the point. No question about it--the best music out there these days by far is by women! ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V8 #28 ****************************** This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
