Richard performed solo for the first hour. He's started to write a second Spanish song, tentatively titled "Cancisn Poquito Mas Complicado." Lucy came out (in jeans and white t-shirt) after the break and sang for over an hour, inviting Richard to accompany her for a couple of songs. Then Lucy sang harmony (she's the best at this) for Richard on one song. They did two encore songs together, including "The Kid." Lucy has a new song! It's about things you do when (or because?) you're in love. She's not sure yet of its title or even whether it's finished. Look forward to hearing it. Lucy jokes about how her songs are dark, but this is probably the most up-beat I've seen her. Her stories are about how much she enjoys being a mom. She didn't mention September 11 and didn't sing either song about that day. Have fun, New Yorkers, at the Lucy/Richard show at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall tonight. Lucy says it's sold out. They put on an excellent concert at the Birchmere in Alexandria last night, dueting on about a half-dozen songs including the old Ian & Sylvia chestnut "Someday Soon," as well as "The Kid" and "Cold Missouri Waters" from "Cry Cry Cry." Solo, Lucy played two of her new songs, "That's What You Do" and "Manhattan Moon," although the titles are subject to change. Richard says he's recording a new album of covers and he did two of them solo: "Northbound 35" by Jeffrey Foucault and Bob Dylan's "Senor." The blend of their voices gave me chills. It was a special night. - -- Jay Votel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Nov 2005 23:56:07 EST From: Bn2Synthsz@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Birchmere Thanks for the reports on the Birchmere shows. Sounds wonderful. Unfortunately, I've never had the pleasure to hear Lucy and Richard together. One of these days...one of these days. I'm really looking forward to seeing Lucy at the me&thee in Marblehead, MA this February. It's been too long since she played at this terrific venue! ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V7 #72 ****************************** This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
