Yes, its tres late, but I have been unable to do more than absolutely necessary emailing until recently. I owe several people on this list some personal emails! ANyways, I have been reading some very disturbing news lately. What is most disturbing is that this has not been covered in conventional news at all. Democratic senators from New York and Wisconsin proposed an amendment to the Department of Defense budget bill to basically disallow military supported prostelytizing. This was spurred by over a hundred complaints from the Air Force Academy in Colorado of harrasing prostelyzation towards non-Christians and non-observant Christians. Among other things are so called "Heathen walks" where cadets who do not attend chapel are marched to their quarters by "non-Heathens". Further complaints about bigoted remarks that you must imagine since I will not type them here and about extreme pressure to attend screenings of the Passion and church services. When debated on the floor of the senate the message from the Republican side was that enforcing Air Force rules concerning religious harrasment was an attack on Christianity. The amendment was defeated along party lines. If you have the chance to write your congressperson and/or senator concerning this and urge them to vote on the side of religious freedom and protection. Whether or not you agree with the current war or war in general it is no doubt that our service men and women deserve to be treated with respect by the military infrastructure irregardless of their religious beliefs or lack thereof.
