Lucy is an artist who explores and mediates the human condition through beautiful songs sung beautifully. Her interpretation of our lives through her music and her poetry touches us all and connects us across the barriers of oceans as well as cultural and spiritual divides. Lucy brings meaning to our very different life experiences through her words. Her songs are filled with compassion and understanding. Her songs bring people together. Her songs and music build bridges. Her songs offer insight. Her songs are not weapons. Her songs explore themes of tolerance and acceptance. Her songs celebrate love and life. Lucy is also a storyteller who, in her songs, writes stories that transcend difference. The role of the storyteller throughout human history has been to look at life from many different points of view and to see through other people's eyes. To help people learn how to live. The 'characters' in the stories in Lucy's songs enable us to 'feel' the feelings of another person. Her stories offer the opportunity for real people, who may never physically meet, to be emotionally moved and to empathise with each other - an indication of their common humanity. In each of her songs every one of us will identify with a line or verse or a sentiment that seems to mean something uniquely special to us as individuals. At the same time it will mean something uniquely special and individual to countless other people. This is the way of art. This is the the way of the artist and the storyteller. This is Lucy. I could feel the warmth all the way down here on the south coast of England. Top class analysis, excellent perspective - and, hopefully, a perfect summary of why we're all here on this list. I usually just read, pick up info on new and old singers and im happy with that.I have not see Justin Rutledge-No Never Alone mentioned yet, my favourite of 2004. Anyway,i just wanted to say a warm thanks to sharonG for such an eloquent post, it takes a lot to open up in public,it may not be the point of the list, but sometimes we have to stray off topic to become a stronger group. Hoping everyone hears some great new and old music in the coming year, enjoy 2005, Drew. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Dec 2004 06:18:26 -0800 (PST) From: Phil Garner Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Lucy and God Gina wrote: I thought you ceased being a Lucy fan when she sent out that email about Bush. Phil here: Actually it was a work in progress which reached completion when Lucy sent the Email. Yep, my CDs sold; it took a while, maybe there are fewer fans now. Gina: It's okay to tell me that I should believe the way you believe or shut up because I'm a minority in America? Very interesting perspective, Phil: Without a doubt neither you nor I carry the weight of influence on this list that Lucy does. There's a big diff between you and me offering one another comments for consideration which we'll both probably ignore and Lucy coming on the list and not so much supporting Kerry as trashing Bush. She crossed the line and I think most Lucy listers know it. And Gina, you ARE in a minority with regard to your religious / political views, not on this list but in the USA you are in a small minority. Boston Doug wrote: I would have thought he would have unsubscribed from the Lucy List. I mean, why would anyone stay on (and POST to) a mailing list for an artist they so strongly dislike? Weird. Phil here: Not really, Dougless. I'm still on Kerry's Email list so I can keep up with what he's doing and thinking (loosely defined). I'm on Lucy's list, unless you can get me kicked off, so I can keep up with what Lucy and her fans are thinking. This list is a good source of examples of the evil effects of humanistic religion; I use the examples when I teach Bible classes because a lot of Christain folk don't know about some of the absurd stuff that permeates the minds of other folk. You see, Doug, we CAN'T avoid religion on a folk music list 'cause on the other side of God is a self-based was of thinking that is no less a religion as is a faith in God. Doug: I was going to apologize for my previous tirade but I've decided not to. Phil: No need to apologize. Christians are the forgiving kind so I forgive you, Doug, and I love you dearly because you were created in the image of God. . Doug: Yes, I was offensive and out of line (notice the cleaned up language) but you should have heard what I *really* wanted to write :-) Phil: Why don't you tell us, Doug? Doug: I also got a good number of private messages saying, in effect, "atta boy!" Phil: Show us those messages, too. Doug: They don't understand that many people just don't want to hear their opinions on these matters. Phil: More folk do than you think, Dougless. You're in a very small minority of folk in the good ole US of A. Doug: Cheers, Phil: Skoal Peace and love to all, Phil ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Dec 2004 11:54:54 -0600 From: "Ellen Bosman" Subject: [lucy-list] RE: [Lucy-list] Lucy and God In reply to dear Phil who stays on this list to share "good examples of the evils of humanistic Religion" in his bible "classes": If you really practiced Christianity as Jesus taught you would not have the desire or time to spend your time arguing about this. St Francis of Assi who practiced Jesus' teaching said "Preach the Gospel at all times, use words only when absolutely necessary." Stop casting stones, be useful. You seem to have to prove that your brand of Christianity/Spirituality is the majority, if it were so why do you continue to exclaim this? Appears to be insecurity. You do no honor to Christianity on this list. Phil may your bible "classes" turn to bible studies that produce fruits of the Spirit in 2005, Ellen Long time lurker, first time poster who had a good laugh at the original post ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Dec 2004 13:36:00 -0500 From: rachel@rachelwrites.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Lucy and God It may or may not be true that people who are not Christian are in the minority in this country.
