In other words, not at all. > ... What do you think "The Red Thread" is about if not Lucy and Rick's opinions of the world? Note the irony--there were no political posts to the lucy-list (The "Bush must go" letter from some twenty-five singer-songwriters was emailed to Lucy's announcement list, not to this listserv.) until people started complaining that politics does not belong here. (Would those same people also exclude actors from politics?) I happen to value the opinions and ideas of those who disagree with me--e.g., I'd be very interested in Dick Cheney's review of "The Red Thread" if he should ever write one. Another lister wrote that we should get involved at the local level before we worry about who the president is. He must live very far away; because to those of us in New York or Washington or with friends or family there, deterring terrorists is the most important local issue. I oppose President Bush because instead of fighting the ideology of hatred as he promised, his arrogance has resulted in the world hating the U.S. more than ever. George W. Bush has not made us safer--Osama bin Laden is still out there taunting us and Kim Jong Il has turned plutonium fuel rods into fissile material for atomic bombs. President Bush is the worst president of my lifetime. So I am doing everything I can to defeat him, including volunteering to be a poll monitor for the Democrats in Cleveland on Tuesday. I'll also be cheering for John Kerry when singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen appears with him in downtown Cleveland tomorrow night. Back to Lucy: didn't anyone get to her show in Annapolis on Thursday? Libby? Peace! No one is going to get their mind changed on the election or anything else by comments left here. Musicians who naively want to talk politics only preach to the choir that agree with them and alienate all the fans who don't. It's time to stop ruining this awesome list with dopey political analysis and get back to discussing Lucy's music which incidently is almost 100% politics free. - --- lucy-list-digest wrote: > > lucy-list-digest Sunday, October 31 2004 > Volume 06 : Number 163 > > > > In this issue: > > Re: [lucy-list] Political Agenda > Re: [lucy-list] Political Agenda > [lucy-list] And Gorka speaks > > - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > > Date: Sat, 30 Oct 2004 10:17:10 -0400 > From: "R. This response has nothing to do with my affinity for Lucy or her music. It also has nothing to do with my political beliefs. It has to do with the content of some of the emails that have come across this list over the past few days. I am ASHAMED to be on a list with so many people who are so narrow and closed minded. For those of you who don't realize this...let me give you a little note.... Lucy is a HUMAN BEING...not a puppet on the stage designed to do nothing but provide YOU with entertainment. She has opinions and it is HER right to express HER opinion! Secondly, welcome to folk music. It is embedded in the history of folk music that the majority of performers freely express their viewpoints. And since when do we tell people in America that they can't express their opinions. The last time I looked this was a free country and we all have the right to our opinion and the ability to express it whether we are a 'celebrity' or a 'normal person'. <> Good. I highly doubt she needs or wants fans that are this childish. Hope you enjoy whatever music you decide to pursue from now on....I highly recommend checking out Britney Spears...she seems fairly incapable of forming her own opinions, not to mention expressing them so you should be safe with her. <> Funny...a person can't use their OWN list to express their OWN opinions? Hmm..interesting. I'll have to keep that in mind. So from now on everyone should just state facts and only facts huh? You can find some great facts here << I appreciate the fact that we all have a right to express ourselves. However, what makes artists think that their customers are at all interested in their political preferences? >> Hmmm...maybe because she's a HUMAN BEING and not a figure in place solely for your amusement. <> Life must be REALLY boring to only surround yourself with people who are exactly like you. Enjoy it. << Me, too. That's regretable. I put some of Lucy's CDs on Amazon Marketplace. If they sell quickly then OK; if not then I may dispose with a hammer. >> Let me guess...you burned your Dixie Chicks cds too? Grow up. << But I draw the line when I'm stiff armed by an artist outside of the expression of their art.>> That's funny...i don't recall her dragging you to the polls and putting a gun to your head and demanding that you vote for Kerry << shut up and sing!>> Why don't you try moving to Afghanistan or North Korea...i hear the singers there don't express their opinions at all, should be much more to your liking. << But I hope it sends her back into the medical arena from whence she came.>> That is possibly the most horrific and childish comment I have ever seen on this list. Who are you to even make a comment like this about HER career. I don't even know what else to say about this....it literally made me ill. Grow the fuck up. Enough for now... - -Kristen _________________________________________________________________ Dont just search. Find.
