I went for the first time last year and am looking forward to going again this year. I wish someone would have given me the following suggestions beforehand. 1) The FRFF web site, of course, has much info. In addition: 2) Take a 'sand' chair. If a basketball will fit under the chair, it can't be used close up at the Main and Workshop Stages. Folding chairs including 'bag' chairs can only be used up the hill at the stages and of course in your camping area. 3) No chairs, blankets, tarps, etc can remain at Main Stage overnight. Each morning at the appointed time, fans can stake out an area on the grass with a 9' x 12' maximum size tarp or blanket. So bring one, if interested. Wear tennis shoes or sandals with ankle straps. Otherwise you will lose them in the MAD rush. It's a little like the start of the LeMans car race! But bring your coffee & roll, etc and chair (which you can set aside just before the worker in charge says "GO") and mingle with your neighbors while waiting in line.. 4) Water is available from tanker trucks located in the lower camping area, between Main & Family Stages, and maybe on top of the ridge (never looked for one there). If you are camping, suggest you bring 2 empty gallon plastic drink containers (one for each hand) plus your non-glass drink bottle. 5) Bags of ice are available at a reasonable price. 6) The showers are nicely done with plenty of hot water. But either take a shower very early or late. Otherwise be prepared to stand in line for upwards of 1 hour. There are 2 lines queing up for 6 shower stalls each. 7) A few weeks ago I saw a report on the internet on cell phone coverage at FRFF but can't find it now. I've got Cingular and the report said you must be on top of the ridge for coverage. (Cell towers are generally located along Interstates in rural areas and FRFF isn't very close to the interstate.) 8) Bring lots of sunscreen. Even if it's not hot, there is no shade at the Main & Workshop Stages. 9) Maybe Sharon, Timothy and others have some suggestions to add to this list. Looking forward to seeing you and Lucy there! CELL PHONE RECEPTION Below are a few cell phone carriers and their reception at Falcon Ridge, based solely on anecdotal evidence. Verizon - Very good reception, both on the hill and in the midway and lower areas (2003). Cingular - Very good reception on top of the hill, tentative reception in the middle of the hill, little to no reception in the midway and lower areas. Weak to no reception in the town of Hillsdale (2003). SprintPCS - No reception anywhere (2003). 8) Bring lots of sunscreen. Even if it's not hot, there is no shade at the Main & Workshop Stages. 9) Maybe Sharon, Timothy and others have some suggestions to add to this list. Looking forward to seeing you and Lucy there!
