Billboard Magazine estimates that there are up to 80 million American "adults" (broadly defined as 25 - 60) that the music industry is not properly serving. These are folks who love music, have the money to buy it, but have a hard time finding music they like in today's environment. RONALD'S RECORD CLUB helps its members find great music with no effort on their part. Members receive one or more CDs per month (or every other month, at their election) from a musical category they designate (singer songwriter, jazz, world, etc. - no rock or rap). There is no membership fee and no long term or short term obligation. You can join for a month or two to try it, and if you don't like the music you're receiving, you can quit anytime. You can find the web site at www.ronaldsrecordclub.com. On the home page we've posted some letters from members who seem to love it. The comment that I hear over and over is that itbs fun to receive a new musical surprise every month. So if you're so inclined, check it out, and even join. Very shortly we will also be offering a feature that enables you to buy a gift subscription for a friend or family member. You can also tell a friend about it. I've been checking it out today--man, what a selection of great artists most of whom you've never heard of. Lots of cross references, links, and audio clips as well.....another good excuse to waste time surfing the net. Lucy is prominently featured this year in the Friday Night "roundtable" song swap with Greg Brown, Richard Shindell and (one I am much less familiar with) Eliza Gilkyson." Just a quick reply from over the pond. I promoted Eliza Gilkyson here in Wales, UK last year. Not only is she a superb live performer with a great, slightly husky voice, she is also a very gracious lady. The day after her gig we drove her up into the beautiful Cambrian Mountains here and it was like having a trip out with an old and favourite friend. A memorable moment was when we stopped to watch Red Kites just above us, swirling and swooping in their mating flights. (They have a wingspan of nearly two meters.) She gave a huge amount out to our audience who loved her. Her songs are full of complex images, poetic magic and reveal the scars on her soul as well as our world. Wish I could be at FRFF to see her (and of course to see Lucy for what would only be the third time for me - she doesn't get to Wales that often.) Lastly, while I'm here - is it just me who thinks this... shouldn't Benay be out there in the literary world writing books. Diary of a folk fan maybe. She has the wit... the turn of phrase... the acute observations about the little things in life that can turn into giant nightmares... the talent...
