Re: [lucy-list] it never fails [lucy-list] Lucy on WFUV - MONDAY AFTERNOON [lucy-list] NPR interview ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 16 Apr 2004 08:49:04 -0400 From: Benay Bubar Subject: [lucy-list] Mountain Stage promo In a promo for Mountain Stage on WFUV (2 p.m. today here in New York!) they just referred to Lucy as "America's singer/songwriter sweetheart." Don't know why that made me giggle...it' s not that Lucy isn't actually sweet...guess it's just that the phrase conjures up an image of a debutante in a long, frilly dress crooning the ORIGINAL version of "A, You're Adorable" rather than Lucy in a leather jacket singing Hole in My Head! Anyway, at least Lucy will have made it onto the radio ONCE this week. And, really, why not spread out the exposure a bit? NPR will come when it comes... Benay ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Apr 2004 15:31:03 -0400 (GMT-04:00) From: Benay Bubar Subject: [lucy-list] it never fails I didn't ask for much. I just thought that while I was work, sitting at my desk, with a radio carefully borrowed for the occasion since mine had gone kaput, I could listen to the broadcast of Lucy's appearance on Mountain Stage. I knew what Lucy was going to sing; the playlist had been posted on the Mountain Stage website for weeks. I knew I'd heard the songs before. And I was happy to do my computer work through the broadcast. I just wanted to hear it. And I managed to find WFUV, though that's always a slight battle. And I heard the strains of the Mountain Stage introduction. And all was blissful during Ollabelle's whole set as they opened the program. Then on came Lucy, after a generous introduction by the host. Lucy began singing I Had Something, and I heard a good half of the song...until an editor called with a rather obvious question. I answered the question, and nicely too, but she was still confused, so I explained...and by the time we got things figured out, Lucy was finishing up The Red Thread. Then Lucy went into Line in the Sand, and I think I heard it all the way to the first chorus before the phone rang, and it was the prepress house with a technical question. I had to look at files, I had to go back and forth with them---fine, all part of my job---but by the time I finished with THAT, Lucy was most of the way through Hole in My Head! Finally, Lucy started Brooklyn Train...and I thought, well, OK, then, let me just listen to this ONE song...my favorite song on The Red Thread. She got two lines into it, and suddenly one of the freelancers (I sit in a big open space with two freelancers on either side of me) said to the other across the room: "Ever hear of Ultima?" or something like that. And abruptly, although none of us had really conversed about anything ALL day, both of the freelancers were engrossed in a VERY spirited across-the-room discussion of...video games. A LOUD discussion, i.e.: "And THEN, when you get your TREASURE, you take the sword..." And I couldn't tell them to be quiet. They are nice people; they look upon my musical interests with bemused tolerance most of the time; and after all, it wasn't as if we were in church. But by the time they were done...so was Lucy. Anyway, from what I HEARD, it was a nice performance on Lucy's part... :-) Benay ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Apr 2004 16:36:25 -0400 From: "benruth@earthlink.net" Subject: [lucy-list] Lucy's NPR interview---TODAY! Hey, Lucy's interview is shown here at the NPR site as being the last story on TODAY'S All Things Considered! BUT I am going to see Greg Brown tonight! I'm smiling. I just renewed my membership but may have to give them another contribution of the Lucy premiums are good! susan in alameda ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Apr 2004 21:36:05 -0500 From: "Steve Gilmore" Subject: [lucy-list] NPR interview It aired on today's program, which you can access from NPR's website, in case you didn't hear it when the program aired (or want to hear it again, and again, and again.....) Well, it's only halfway through All Things Considered here in New York, so I suppose there still might be hope, but based on the listing of upcoming stories on their website, it's not looking as if Lucy's interview will air today after all. Guess we should keep watch on her website, as she said at Wolf Trap that she'd put more information there in the News section if and when she had it...
